Myspace is AWESOME
For promoting independent film and music, MySpace has no equal. Before MySpace, there was no real way to connect to THOUSANDS of potential viewers. So, from a marketing standpoint, MySpace is a tremendous boon to all independent artists.
I've only used it sparingly for dating and finding long lost friends. Cheers! |
Myspace is kind of a 50/50 thing for me, I've been on it since it first started...I like it for finding old friends that I haven't talked to in years, also for finding new bands that I probably would have never heard about if it wern't for myspace...But there is def. a downside to it as well, all the rediculous add whore bulletins that so many attention whores put out, and all the perverted adults that post shit on underage kids pages...

It really depends on what YOU use MySpace FOR.
When we work with the bands, booking, transportation, setting up the shows, MySpace is a VERY fast and easy way to contact everyone and keep it all together. If I need to pass along some information or questions (usually about shows, attendence, times, prices, etcetera) for all of my friends at once, I can post ONE bulletin, instead of having to call 50 people...THAT is great. If we have plans to hang out with a few of our friends, we can contact them here instead of having to call them all. AND...I just received a few applications at MySpace for the job that we need to get filled IMMEDIATELY, and one of those applications is damn near perfect, the guy only lives 10 minutes away and meets all of the requirements. Also, by checking their profiles, you can find out a LOT about them personally (especially their personalities), and that helps to decide if they would be right for the job, too. BUT...If you're just using it to hook up with people...That's pretty lame to begin with...I can see where it would be kinda stupid and pointless... |
What are you doing on there now Rayne?

Boring but necessary shit... |
Haha, yeah. I'm closing mine. I'm fixing to reopen one with my girlfriend, but if me and her break up, I'm not making another one.
The only thing I'd use myspace for after that is for my band....Which I may be fixing to find some new members because the ones I have right now aren't doing anything yet. But since I've had myspace, I have been able to get in touch with three of my old friends that I haven't talked to in about four years. So that really was a useful thing. Right now, I'm collecting emails and phone numbers so I can stay in touch with my friends from there after I close mine down. |
Ouch,
this hits hard. I was and AM very much against myspace. It is the largest attention whoring contest in the world, and even though it is great for networking 90% of it is misused. It is a bastardized version of its original concept. BUT Unfortunately, a week ago, i became a hypocrite. Due to the field in which i work in, I was pretty much forced to get it. No matter who you talk to in the audio world, if you dont have a myspace, your arent taken seriously. It's like not having email. THATS HOW FAR ITS COME. The only good thing which i have experienced through myspace so far, is the fact that i have been able to keep in touch with past business associates and freinds in which i probably woul not have under normal circumstances (sick isnt it?..they just make it that easy). So, i still stick with my belief that myspace is reserved for semi-educated flaggellants, but alas, i have joined. BUT if you look at my site, i keep it STRICTLY business. NO TOP 8 , NO COMMENTS! http://myspace.com/gskoof |
