its hard for me to measure obscure as far as the regular population goes because i know very few people who know anything other than a small handfull of extremely popular titles.

for me obscure is defined as 'something i havent heard about by now'

measured in part by how difficult it was to find.

it wasnt until recently i realized how few people liked horror films ... when i was growing up it seemed all kids liked them .. i just never stopped.

but that kind of goes for all film ... i'd say you are either in the 1 - 5 % (hard core movie lover)

or the 20% (movies are stupid - i'll watch sports or friends or cheers reruns)

or the remaining % ... whatever .. i'll watch it if its on or if the people at work keep telling me to rent it.

i find only the hard core movie lovers find themselves watching foreign film, black and white film, etc...

so if you are a hard core film lover ... and middle aged ... there isnt much that's commercially available that's obscure..

The thing with "obscure horror" is that if you're talking to your average joe, everything is obscure. Talk with a bunch of geeks like we have here and nothing is obscure. Geeks love everything, bless 'em.

pet cemetary is not ridiculous but cabin fever is? At least cabin fever is aware of what type of movie it is, whereas pet cemetary obviously had no idea.

What is that supposed to mean?

I'd say Pet Sem had just as much of a solid plot as Cabin Fever did...maybe more.

pet cemetary was as bad as any stephen king book and/or adaptation. But I can better appreciate the ones that know they are adaptations of a hugely overrated cookie cutter writer. Like graveyard shift, the movie was kinda dumb, just like stephen king's work, but at least it was aware of it and had some campy fun, a la cabin fever.
