It'd be like High School all over again, and no one wants that.

I have no problem being nerdy either, but I agree that that level of public display of it is not needed. I'd feel too self conscience to enjoy myself. Playing with peers at someones house is just more comfortable and relaxing.

Exactly. in public, people who would say "Live and let live" to you if you complained about other people would tell you to grow up.

And i dont need that crap when my ranger/mage is about to make a saving throw vs death...

"lightning bolt! lightning bolt!"

check this nerdy shit out

when I was in a band we would play AD&D paper-style while we were going down the road. it passed the time and none of us were too cool to play. it was fun and now I wish I could find other people my age to play with.

Well, I'm 34, and I have been playing D&D for ... 22 years with the same guys! Of course we nearly don't play as often as we used to, but we still play once a month or so.

And believe me, there are more than nerds who play this game! We used to be metalheads, and still are I guess, the kind of teens who would play countless pranks, beat up skaters and jocks AND play D&D for thirthy straight hours over the week-end :D

Ah, the good old days...

Trust me... no matter who you are or what you do, if you play rpgs, you are a nerd. Accept it. embrace it and enjoy it. I married a hot, smart woman. i make a ton of money. i play bass (also a metalhead), huge into Nine inch Nails, was generally well liked by everyone in high school, friends with pretty much everyone i knew. Graduated and was frinds moslty with people many years my senior, for all intents anfd purposes, through high-school and after lived a bit of a "cool kid" life. But i was and still am a hardcore nerd. I just didnt give up the ability to be socially adept like so many of my dork cousins.

Nerd and geek are just fine, they are badges of honor.

Dork, spaz, dweeb.... these are the moronic losers who get WAY to into the games and have 4 gig collections of porn, yet somehow still have no idea what parts make up a woman.

Well, if everyone who plays D&D is a nerd, then I guess I must be one!!!

But I've always believed that there are two main types of people playing D&D : Nerds and Weirdos. That much was evident last year when I attended a live roleplaying week-end : nearly everyone there was either your typical nerd or a punk, goth, metalhead or weird looking-type.

As for myself, I hardly fit the nerd description : I absolutely hate Star Trek, totaly sucks at computers, have long black hair and listen to metal, particularly extreme metal.

Oh well, perhaps there's no escaping the Nerd label. As long as no one says it to my face, except if they run faster than me ...

Nerds of the Forum unite!

hehe Car Wars. I still have that one. Just pulled it out and looked at it about a month ago.

Also had Wabbit Wampage. Lost the instructions though - wish I could remember how to play it.

I would love to get hold of Larn again. I played that for hours on an ancient 286 with a green screen. Once I had sussed out how to edit the thing, I changed all the names of the monsters to people out of bands I liked. So you got stuff like "Killed by Joe Perry with a blade on level5".

I miss HOL (Human Occupied Landfill)

Rolling up characters was almost more fun than playing.
