They're all decent movies IMO, but nowhere near as good as their reputation.

Wow. Jaws and Exorcist are both great, to me, and Vertigo is my third favorite movie of all time. Yikes.

Saw and Hostel would be my two overrated. GodDAMN did these movies get a lot of hype. They ended up being complete and utter horseshit. I can see why pre-teen girls are becoming the horror genre's main target.

Well this is why there are so many movies. People don't all like the same movies! A different person likes a different movie.

Personally, I did like "Jaws," scares me every time I see it, and it shouldn't, at this point, because I've seen it many times. But it still works for me somehow, and I love those mechanical sharks that were built for the film, they really did the job. That scene with Richard Dreyfuss in the cage is soooooo menacing. Good stuff Maynard.

Hell yah. Me too.

I don't know that I would classify it as the most overrated movie of ALL time, but Cannibal Holocaust is the one that gets my vote. I watched it recently after reading and hearing a bunch of hype, and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Of course, I don't know what that says about me.:D

After hearing how it was the "goriest movie of all time", it didn't really do it for me. I mean, it was okay...but the high quality gore could not make up for a low quality movie.

After reading it, the movie seemed so rushed. Normally I dont like long movies, but even another half hour would have made The Exorcist much better. The movie hardly tells us anything about Father Karras, while in the book he was a very full and well written charater, so I was disapointed. Dont get me wrong, I think it's a decent film and it was very well made, just nowhere near as good as it could/should have been.

I havent watched it in almost a year though, I suppose I should give it another chance.

That was probably one of the creepiest books I have ever read. Books don't tend to creep me out, but that book gave me the shivers. Very well written.

I will tell you the most overrated horror movie ever... cliché drum roll please... The most overrated horror movie of all time is... DAMN! I can't think of its title.

Just kidding. I think it's the Texas Chain Saw Massacre remake.

PR3SSUR3 06-27-2006 03:27 PM

TCM is a seminal movie, and many successful deranged backwoods slashers have followed in its wake.

It also made chain saws the must have garden tool of outrageous aggressive horror, taking the baton from The Last House on the Left quite nicely.

Unfortunately, chain saws in movies have been done to death by now.

Nail guns - we should see more of them, and sharpened tape-measures.

PR3SSUR3 06-27-2006 03:30 PM

...and that's the response if anyone dare claim the original is overrated (who the bloody hell thinks the remake is overrated?).

:D

Cannibal Holocaust accusers: are you basing your shit on the uncut version of the film?
