I thought it was a kickass movie. The van scene was pretty hardcore. I guess Cruise's previous role in Collateral gave him some "bad ass" juice for this one.
Although i dont understand how this came from the genius mind of Spielberg when it was based off of someone elses writings :o |
Yeah, I went to the pictures to see this, and I thought it were awesome. Not a great fan of Tom Cruise, I want to smack that disgusting smile right off his smug little face. But, apart from that I absolutely fucking loved it! My jaw was wide open for most of the film, I couldn't believe the size of those machines, and what they could do, but not only that how real they looked. Sound crashing all around me, cars flying in the air, people being disintrigrated, but unfortunately they missed cruise! Not that intelligent after all!
I think spielberg got a bit mushy towards the end, but hey, it was always gonna be tom cruise saves the day single handed! Spielberg is a huge war of the worlds fan, and I believe he has original memorabilia of the original orson wells stuff, so I think it's fair to say he did it justice as much as he could. Bit too contemporary for my liking, you're too inclined to compare it with the original when they do that. |
i can't believe you guys are arguing over this.

you're arguing over whether a fictitious group of aliens would or would not be immune or are smart enough to anticipate the earth's bacteria.... you don't see the hilarity in that?

i think how the aliens died is completely immaterial ..
h.g. wells wrote it that way at the time it was written it would have seemed very clever and plausible. its not like it doesnt happen here by the way .. we can get very sick by simply drinking the water of another country on OUR planet. Its not like we dont have Drs. i think that would be fuel enough for Wells' imagination back in the day. as i've said on a couple of occasions .. this movie was full of effective moments and only really failed at the end. (the brother surviving for a feelfood hollywood ending) and the bullshit 'carry the child up the street' sequence which was so obviously for dramatic effect alone that it was rediculous. its a pity someone just doesnt film the book proper. I think JAckson should redo the damn thing. |
The thing is, I think wells was trying to empasize on the fact that although they were intelligent enough to fly to another planet, they had overlooked the most basic faculty with their greed to take over another planet.

could very well be ..
