Nightmare on Elm.Street is a classic.the rest however(as urgeok pointed out)did little short of amuse.after part 1 the series(like all series)became a case of one-up-manship,replacing terror with shock value.

however the later installments did help flesh out freddy's character and status as a cult icon.

Yeah, totally go for the boxed set--the bonus DVD is totally narly.

I think some might consider the second installment to be the worst, but I think it's underrated--even the silly ending where (*SPOILER ALERT*) Freddy crashes the pool party is CLASSIC! LMAO! Plus there's all of that great 1980s homoeroticism, haha! Fun stuff!

The nightmare on Elm Street collection set is sweet, a must buy. My favorite installment of the series is Dream Warriors.

I never noticed the gay overtones in the sequel. Do gay men have an acuter gaydar than straight men. Explain your answer.

The first is a little corny, but I have to say, I have seen the first three and I LOVE the third! Its so bloody scary!!!

First movie was best in my opinion. Then for sheer entertainment: Dream Warriors. Then probably New Nightmare.
