Well, Bac-O's are imitation bacon bits, and they're still available...these were actual strips. You got them frozen, I think, and then you were supposed to store them in the fridge...they were quite flexible, kind of like bacon, and completely flat slices, like bacon. Like bacon, it also had a white part and a reddish part--but this was manufactured into it, and it looked like something a machine had created. The red and white parts had this unnaturally regular design.

So you would take these rubbery things and fry them up. Just like bacon, they would exude a lot of oil and shrivel up and turn golden brown and crispy. One notable difference between this stuff and real bacon was that when you cooked it, it became crispy through and through, no matter how done it was--you couldn't get different levels of flexibility like you can with real bacon. So every slice turned out crispy, no matter how much you had browned it.

Believe it or not, it actually tasted pretty good! It was salty and oily and had a little bit of smoke flavoring added. And if you don't feel like eating now, well, I am sorry!

Hmm, I have no idea. I'll do some searching for you to see if I can find out.

A long time ago, Ricardo Montalban did a voiceover for this travel agency...they were selling vacation packages to Mexico...

And the first image was this helicopter shot, approaching a beautiful beach, and you heard Ricardo's voice say "MEEEEEEEEEEXXXXXX-iCO." And it was the scariest, most sinister sounding thing ever recorded. Like he was trying to make it creepy for some reason.

I was going to cosmetology school at the time, learning makeup artistry and so on, and all the cute girls were giggling about this for weeks in the back room. "MEEEEEEEEEXXXXX-ICO," they would say, wearing a creepy Boris Karloff kind of expression.
