In this case, both versions are being released on the same day. So it's not as if you have to buy the R-version now and the unrated version later (unlike THE GRUDGE -- where the PG-13 version has an audio commentary with somebody mentioning that a director's cut version will be out later -- whch prompts Sam Raimi to laugh, "Peopel who just paid $20 for this DVD are probably pulling their hair out now!")
They did that with Hellboy, too. Pissed me off so bad....

i know I was one of them. so I guess wait on dvds for a while then buy them when the special edition comes out.

well theres a HUGE difference between the cut and ucut ichi the killer. just bought the uncut one and it is savage compared to the shitty british version.

Romero said something about one of the major cut scenes was a story segment and not gore at all. Also, if I read correctly, he had zombies walk in front of a green screen and when there were big gore shots to lessen their intesity inserted the walking zombies which I don't think will be there in the unrated. No extra time, just not cheap censoring edited in. I also hope the hand ripping scene isn't all fog and shadow in the unrated...

Just watched my unrated directors cut it was the first time I seen it. I loved thought it was a great movie ! Set in modern days with our weapons and technology. I watched a few of the extras pretty cool stuff on there. Who else got it ?

I got it, but did'nt bother to see the theatre cut because it's only just come out in England. Some cool stuff on the dvd & not a bad commentary. One of the extended scenes felt really tacked on, had'nt seen the theatre cut but it was obvious watching the scene with Cholo in the Green that it was'nt in the theatre cut. As for the film not bad but i just hate that big daddy asshole!

Well I just got finished with all of the extra's, it's the first time I ever watched extras on a DVD. I like the making of and how they made the zombies, I'm very pleased with it.

Yaaaahhhh! Yaaaaaahhhhh!

Has anyone noticed that

1. Both "Land of the Dead" and "Ghosts of Mars" feature "monster warlords" who are named "Big Daddy"?

2. That the "monster warlords," in both cases, are transformed humans under the control of preturnatural forces?

3. That in both cases, the character makeup for these characters was done by KNB?

4. And that in both cases, the "monster warlords" generally get their people moving by screaming a lot?

filmmaker2 10-19-2005 03:44 PM

But it goes farther than that, people!

"Ghosts of Mars" is basically a remake (on Mars) of Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13."

"Assault on Precinct 13" has many things in common with Romero's "Night of the Living Dead," including (as mentioned in a perceptive review I read once) the fact that in both cases the action is drawn to a central location by a character who, once arriving, becomes a vegetable and unable to greatly influence the outcome of the drama (Barbara in NOTLD, and the girl's father in ASSAULT).

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

noticed the similarities between those two films as well, Both those characters in both films annoyed the shit outta me. Anyone feel that the makeup on big daddy was really shit compared to the other zombies?
