Oops, thanks for pointing the link out.

Can't wait to get this set - I've always wanted to see Bedlam.

I love the way Boris Karloff played an interesting sadistic doctor full of black humor in Bedlam.
Also notable is his role in Isle of the Dead.

Of the following movies I've seen:
- Ghost Ship
- Seventh Victim
- Leopard Man
- Bedlam
- Isle of the Dead
- I Walked with a Zombie

The last two make for easy favourites.

I think THE CAT PEOPLE is good, but it's a bit overrated (because it was the first Lewton horror). Some of the character stuff is a bit naive, to the point of being funny. I say that not as a critic, but as someone who enjoys the film but cringes at the laughter from other viewers.

I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE is the most atmospheric of the bunch, a beatiful, dream piece of work

THE BODY SNATCHER I find to be the most effectively dramatically, thanks to the tension between Karloff and Henry Daniel.

By the way, Robert Wise, who directed BODY SNATCHER and co-directed CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE, died yesterday.

Robert Wise

Wise also directed the Haunting (not the remake, the original)... an amazing horror film.

Yes, THE HAUNTING is my favorite Wise-directed horror film. I just didn't mention it because the thread is about Val Lewton productions.

I watched the commentary on The Wolf Man a few days back...really makes Mr. Lewton out as a jealous, whiney little man....
