Right on!

The original kind of creeped me out when I was a kid (I was a wimp) but really, it isn't that great of a film. It is boring in spots and what the hell was up with Rod Steiger anyway? He just overacted his way through his part. That was some of the worst acting I have seen from a good actor ever. Well, except for Burton in Exorcist II.

But it has its bright spots. ;)

Rod Steiger is second only to Jack Lemon when it comes to over acting ..
Sometimes it works .. it's fascinating to witness .. but in the wrong rolls it's embarrasing.

I remember at the time it came out that AH seemed scary a couple of times .. but it really wasnt a very good movie.

Well, I thought Steiger was great in In the Heat of the Night. And that is the film that always comes to mind when someone brings up his name. But I guess you are right, he had a way of hamming it up.

yeah,, but like i said .. in the right roll its appropriate..

and Lemon .. look at him go in Glengary Glen Ross.
Holy shit it was like his swan song ...
Being a Mammet story it is dialogue and intense so it worked ...
but holy hell did Lemon ever ride the edge ..

Definately the original AH. The sequel really peeved me. I don't like it when animals (the critter variety, not the humans) are injured, tortured, killed to add impact to a movie. Completely lame. Shows an inability to build a proper scare with good writing, cinematograpghy, music. In other words, a cheap shot. Lots of examples, not only the remake of AH.( Fright Night, Pet Semetary II, Apt Pupil, Flatliners... ) I thought Steiger was good in the original, but I'm a fan. He was good in In The Heat of the Night, The Neighbor, Illustrated Man and the real horror of The Pawnbroker. The only miscast in AH, the original, was Don Stroud as a priest-I kept half expecting him to pull a gun out of his pocket and start shooting up the church.

The original was great, the remake was crap. Theres my opinion, too tired to go in depth about it:)
