But this is exactly the problem between The Shining the film and The Shining the book - picturing Jack Nicholson crazed from the outset in Kubrick's movie, the bonkersly winsome Shelley Duvall, not to mention the crude shocks... are all at odds with the feel of King's book.
Kubrick changed the supernatural elements, and while he made an undeniably effective film, it is very, very different from the original story - and if anything, detracts from it.
