Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America

Quite disturbing. The last segment especially, for me anyways.

I am glad they made a seventh installments, as this would have been a horrible way to end a franchise. Each installment of the NOES franchise thus far has provided some excellent special effects. The fourth one was the climax, in my opinion, but I enjoyed each of them. UP UNTIL THIS INSTALLMENT. My god, what trash!

The story wasn't all that great, but what ruined it the most, was the effects! The visuals. The trailer even exclaims: "Cool graphics!" Oh my god. People don't tell me this wowed people back when it premiered. I felt like vomiting.

Did this start the switch from prosthetics to digital? If so, even more reasons to hate it. It was... oh god... I can't say this enough. Terrible. Terrible. TERRIBLE.

And then they go and highlight all the effects in the previous installments during the end credit clip reel? That contrast made it even worse.

F.

That movie deserves an F----------. Freddy's Dead FUCKING SUCKED! I am a huge NOES fan, and when I watched this movie, I took it out of the DVD player and threw it across the room. The only reason I still own it is because I got the NOES box set and, if I get rid of it, the set doesn't look good. The worst thing is, the director has been with the NOES series since the beginning. You think she would've given Freddy a great finale (thank God it wasn't). But no, she makes a tragedy out of the movie. I've seen car accidents that looked better than this steaming pile of horseshit. And don't even get me started on the special effects. I too wanted to puke. Also, how come there were only about three deaths? What kind of slasher movie has this low of a body count? I wouldn't mind it so much if the kills were more inventive and entertaining (I'll admit, the hearing aid death was slightly enjoyable). All in all, the makers of this movie should burn in hell. Fuck this movie!

The Black Dahlia (2006) - 4/10

Despite his impressive visual style, Brian De Palma remains a hit-or-miss filmmaker. For every "Scarface" or "The Untouchables," there's a half-dozen misfires. Unfortunately, "The Black Dahlia" belongs in the misfire category. This deliriously incoherent James Ellroy adaptation suffers from flat acting and lack of narrative focus.

The Exorcist - Director's Cut.
The subtle indications of the demon + the spider walk scene was noteworthy, but the theatrical version was better.
