Dude. In the last 30 minutes of the movie every single male lead was crying. Did anyone else have issue with that? I mean, we all knew that Peter Parker was a pussy, how can we possibly take anyone else seriously if they're weeping and trying to kick his ass at the same tine?! - Keep the eyes dry.

Bruce Campbell's 5 minutes - Best five minutes of the film hands down. Then again, I am thrilled to pieces with all of his Old Spice commercials.

That's it! If, instead of Spider Man 3, Sam Raimi made an hour and a half long Old Spice commercial... I wouldn't have left the theater grieving that I had lost 2 hours of my life.

Anyway.

Last night I watched Ju-On for the first time.

I had seen the American remake when it came out, and honestly at the time I was living in my own apartment, by myself, and was incredibly drunk. First, it scared me sober and then it kept me up all night (I eventually got to sleep by convincing myself that if there was a vengeful wraith in my apartment it would have already gotten me - no lie), so suffice to say, I was fairly impressed with its direction and acting (though I really hate Sarah Michelle Gellar).

I was really looking forward to the original, especially since I am completely intrigued by the fact that it's directed by the same guy - Takashi Shimizu.

As to be expected, the direction was incredible. Horror and suspense were built up well, and the physical manifestation of the ghost is still just as frightening (I even screamed a few times)...

HOWEVER...

I found the intermingling stories meandering, confusing, and relatively superfluous. I could see why he omitted a lot of them when remaking it. The film definitely drags out longer than it should have and the payoff (the "twist" if you will) is completely unnecessary and nonsensical.

Sorry, Shimizu, but I liked the remake better (and thought it was COMPLETELY underrated at the time).

I give Ju-On a B-/B (extra points for obviously being well directed and a novel representation of the ghost itself). I'd see it again, though.

I did see the original first....so that may sway my thoughts.

I loved the original and thought the remake was very good as well.

as far as the meandering, confusing, and relatively superfluous parts......I think that could be more of a cultural difference.

Live Free or Die Hard (unrated) - 9/10

No, to be honest, I didn't really think about it....;) I was much more annoyed by the dancing Peter Parker bit, which was very lame, particularly when we supposed to be believing he was going a little bad. It was a disappointment, just because I thought the second one was pretty damn good. Of course I have always had a soft spot for Spidey.

Yeah, how annoying was that? So inconsistent with the rest of the film!! But... Yet... So Sam Raimi. :rolleyes:
