Not a perfect movie by any means, but a LOT of fun to watch. It's a horror movie musical homage to teen slashers with some pretty clever songs and great acting. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would happily watch it again. Definitely recommended.

Meh - Didn't find it particularly good or memorable.

Give us your ratings, from 1-10! Love your assessments, but not always sure how good or worthwhile the film is over-all to you.

Let the Right One In (2008)

4/10

I was looking forward to seeing this film, as I heard it was really good. I give the film credit for aspects of originality in setting, pace, premise and icy mood. It was very subtle in it's directorial approach, and that sort of new realism in speaking lines sparely and nonchalantly. I appreciate a film with subtly and one that allows me to form my own opinions about characters, but there wasn't enough there for me -- the characters were too cold and inaccessible, and the story too recessed. Maybe one has to be in the mood for this style. I didn't really care about the boy, girl, guardian or mother -- and so there was no film for me.

Blue Ruin
No average revenge flick.
Not great but not bad either.

Not horror....watched a documentary called "Let the Fire Burn" about the city of Philadelphia's attempts to evict radical group MOVE from a house they were occupying in West Philadelphia. Wasn't living here then (was in USAF), so, was kind of familiar with what happened (I had family in Philly). This documentary goes in-depth. It's not sympathetic to either party (MOVE or the city). To me, showed what a total cluster-fuck the entire operation was. Mayor Goode should have been jailed. And the police chief. And the fire chief.

If anyone wants to check it out, it's streaming on Netflix right now.

The Quiet Ones

This was really boring. Nothing scary about it at all unless what you call scary is a movie being really quiet and then suddenly GETTING REALLY LOUD!!! The plot made no sense and seemed like a poor mashup of a ghost and exorcism movie without a ghost or an exorcism. Besides for Jared Harris who's always good and Sam Claflin who genuinely seemed to be trying, the acting was pretty bad and the ending was stupid.

heehee - I try to be good about giving movies a "final" rating but I was feeling lazy. ::wink::

Stage Fright - I'll ultimately give this a 3.25/5 or 3.5/5; the rating may seem low because I've put my "official" Seal of Recommendation on it but it's a bit uneven. It's one of those movies that has a lot of high points and a lot of low points and depending on where your interests lie, you could fall either way in liking or hating it... I personally enjoyed it as fun horror fluff and might like it even more after repeat viewings. The fact that it's a silly musical might be prohibitive to some folks but I thought it was a total blast. I actually wish there were more musical numbers in it.

Also, to add context to the viewing - The Hubby and I were trying to decide who would pick the movie that night - I wanted Stage Fright and he wanted I, Frankenstein - THANK GOD I won with a coin flip. He enjoyed it thoroughly too.

(we wound up watching I, Frankenstein the next day but I thankfully fell asleep and missed it)

In Fear - I ultimately give this a 2/5. I was really disappointed. The blurb on Xfinity On Demand called it "One of the best modern horror movies" or some rubbish like that so my expectations were probably higher than the should have been but, still - Even going into this movie with no expectations I probably would have been disappointed. They try to create a self-contained slow-burner but it's just ultimately not interesting. I didn't care for either of the characters and their situation (being lost in the middle of the country) is not a new or interesting plot device and the director didn't do anything innovative with it.

I'm actually really looking forward to this one, simply based on the fact that I loved the director's first movie, Murder Party - Have you seen Murder Party? Great low-budget horror.

I've heard good things about this one - Would you ultimately recommend it?

The Black Waters of Echo's Pond

What a piece of shit. Some of the worst acting I've seen. Don't waste your time.
