I saw "The Brood". It was okay, but man that film was so slow moving. Or maybe it was the "R" rated version I saw? I'm not sure, that was quite a while ago.
|
War of the Worlds...nice special effects and that's about it.
|
Final Destination 3, there were some cool deaths...
|
The Demon Hunter
This movie plays out like it was scripted and directed right out of the pages of a comic book. Is that a good thing? It could be, but in this case, I would say no. Seeing as how I ended up doing my "editing on the fly," that it is to say, hitting the fastfoward button to speed things up, while not horrible, this movie is forgettable. |
and now, Highlander. don't think a synopsis is necessary for that one ;)
|
Well, I haven't been on for a while, so I have a lot of ground to cover....
The Toolbox Murders Decent gore. Decent acting. Warped storyline. Overall, a pretty good slasher flick with a few surprises. It's not for everyone, but for a true slasher fan, it's a cult classic. C+ Basket Case A very original story with decent, but low budget gore, a slew of peculiar characters and some decent acting. All in all, this was a pretty fun movie... B Ultimate Avengers: The Movie Loved it. The only disappointing thing was that it was only 70 minutes long because I wasn't ready for it to be over. Fantastic animated action flick. B+ Blazing Saddles Hilarious. What more do I need to say? This one is a classic and rightfully so! A- Cannibal Ferox Wow, compared to Cannibal Holocaust, this film seemed really tame. None of the scenes had the amount of realness in them that CH conveyed. Instead of feeling like you were watching actual footage, in this one it felt like you were watching a cheesy cannibal movie... Nowhere near as hard hitting a film so if you are expecting something like CH, don't waste your time. D The Fog (original) I found this incredibly boring and slow moving. The acting was fine, but the plot did not hold my interest whatsoever. D The Shining Well, for the reputation this film enjoys, I was hoping for something a bit more exciting. I found it rather slow moving and long, but Jack Nicholson does a great job and the story was pretty cool. It wasn't as marvelous as I had hoped for, but then again, I probably had heard too many good things about it. B Lord of War This was more talking and less action than I was expecting but because all of the talking and narration was being done by the world's most notorious arms smuggler, it was still interesting. B- Dead Man Johnny Depp is the man. This was one strange trip of a movie from begining to end, but I found it thuroughly enjoyable nevertheless. B+ The Cave Eh... This was alright I guess. Nothing too memorable, but what do you expect from a PG-13 movie about a bunch of cave divers? Minimal gore, the acting was fine, the plot was average. C- Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo This was stupid. I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this one. Rob Schneider is NOT funny on his own. He needs a good writer to give him some good material to work with or else we end up with crap movies like this, The Animal and The Hot Chick. D- Dark Water Ugh! Why do I even bother watching these remakes of Japanese horror films any more? I hated The Ring. I hated The Ring 2. I hated The Grudge. Now we can add Dark WAter to that list too. I'm not a very big fan of these films Asian counterparts either, but at least they are original. What's the sense in remaking a crappy movie? D- Wedding Crashers This is pretty funny, although I wouldn't call it Vince Vaughn or Owen Wilson's best by any stretch of the imagination. Will Ferrell's part is GREAT, but too bad it's only abotu 10 minutes long. All in all, this movie had a LOT of really funny parts, but also a LOT of really slow periods where it seemed to drag. B Whew! Okay, that ought to catch me up. In addition to those movies, I've been watching the first couple seasons of Oz (Great show!), the first season of Lost (Also great), and the first season of Deadwood (Again... Great.) not to mention the college basketball tourney on Thur-Sun. |
Just got thru with Possessed. Fulci is definatley up there with my favorite directors I enjoyed this one and Im not really a big fan of the supernatural flicks. Not as gruesome as a lot of his other films but it made up for it with creepyness and a really cool bird attack sequence.

thunderdome is a fine movie ...
i like all 3 the same - for different reasons. |
Scream 8/10
Titanic 8.5/10 |
In the Mix
This was "The Sopranos" meets the Ghetto! Everything in this movie was wrong and inept. Usher can act, just can't star in good movies (like Jamie Kennedy) and Chazz Palimenteri should feel ashamed of himself. He's a great actor, and to flush his acting chops down the shitter like this was a bad choice! But, the worst thing about this movie was Junior, the white wannabe-gangsta. He was not needed and just slowed the movie down even more than it was doing to itself. I knew I should've passed on this one! 0 out of 5 stars Ernest Goes to School I've always been a fan of Ernest P. Worrell. I've grown up watching him, and still enjoy his movies. Well, the latter of them anyway. Ernest Goes to School was one of the last good Ernest movies. Sure, it got a little bit too cheesy and stupid for me at times, but it did have me laughing at times. Also, we get to see a pre-MadTV Will Sasso in here as a football player for the school's team the muskrats. I think he handled his performance well, especially since he didn't have much to work with. I'm glad to see a good Ernest movie, since the past few I've seen sucked (Slam-Dunk Ernest, Ernest in Africa, Ernest Rides Again). 3 out of 5 stars |
The Five Obstructions
Best documentary ever ***** |
The People Under the Stairs
The Beast of Yucca Flatts |
Just been watching the first series of Six Feet Under on dvd.
Havent ever seen it much before, always thought it looked good. Solid continuous storyline, decent "mini" stories throughout. The characters/relationships are pretty good, and the dialogue great, and it doesn't spare the weirdness. I'm glad I got a chance to watch it...I'd reccomend. |

Haha, thats one crazy movie. What did ya think of it? |
Been watching a compilation DVD called "Extra Weird"...a sampler of the weirdest DVD collection on Earth.
I'm thinking filmmaker2 would love this. http://www.valencio.com/DVD%20Databa...%20Sampler.jpg http://www.somethingweird.com/cart.p...oduct_id=19064 |
Watched a couple pretty good ones tonight:
Tim Burton's Corpse Bride Being a big fan of Burton, Ive been looking forward to seeing this one for quite awhile. To be honest it was a bit disapointing, but still a good film. First off, I love Burton's style. Thought it was interesting how the world of the living was dark and drab, while the world of the dead was brightly coloured. Great contrast. The songs weren't bad, but very derivative of much of Elfman's older work, not only Nightmare Before Christmas. The plot was pretty interesting though, and there were quite a few funny parts, so it wasnt all bad. Overall this is a decent Burton flick, but doesn't even compare to Nightmare Before Christmas, which isn't one of his best films in the first place. 7/10 Riding the Bullet I've read plenty of mixed reviews on this one, and tonight I finally got around to watching it myself. Definitely a very strange movie, but certainly not in a bad way. Maybe it's just me, but Jonathan Jackson reminded me of a younger Johnny Depp, which is by no means an insult. This is the only film I've seen him in, but if this film is any indication of his other work, I must say he's a pretty fine actor. To be honest, the whole cast did a great job in my opinion. The plot was typical King fare, though it did have it's little tweaks to the formula which I enjoyed. Some scenes seemed to drag on forever, but overall this was a fairy fast-paced film. I think it would have fit in very well in another Creepshow sequel if it was a tad shorter, seemed the kid of story that would fit. The message was good, and I really like the ending. Easily one of the best horror films of the last few years. 8.5/10 |
Austin Powers 3
I love this movie, but i think they over did the ... penal humor a little. 6.5/10 *weird return* Corpse Bride... 8/10 Not as good at Nightmare before xmas, but still.... |
Stay Alive -
1/5 Stars */***** Only reason, I like Sophia Bush, the main lead takes off his shirt in a pointless scene, and the ending picks up a bit with some decent imagary, but is overall lost. |
Tale Of Two Sisters...Again...Well, actually, I HAD to watch it again because I fell asleep before the end last time...No WONDER I didn't have a clue what in the hell was goin' on:rolleyes: ...Now, I get it...
MAIL...I actually liked this one a LOT more than I thought I would (even with the subtitles...)...Even though I'm still not 100% 'into' the Asian horror films Anatomy...German Film (I watched it dubbed:p)...This one was much better than I expected, too Dark Harvest...I was expecting this one to be pretty bad...I wasn't disappointed...Just like Slash, only without the band, and Steve Railsback... Blood Feast 2......Awesome Gore, but it didn't have nearly as much as Gore Gore Girls...Dustin has now officially become a Herschell Gordon Lewis fan...Now, if I could just find Gore Gore Girls (Dustin hasn't seen it, I KNOW he'd love it...I told him all about it)...and Blood Feast (the first one) to purchase... I FINALLY bought Dark City, but haven't had time to watch it yet...Also bought The Eye 2 |

Worth seeing at all? If I can get a date Im thinking of going to that next weekend... |
I'm supposedly going to see Stay Alive sunday for a friends Bday. I hope it isn't too awful, this type of movie almost always sucks.
|
Night Watch ... i enjoyed it ..
|
Stay Alive isn't worth seeing IMO. If your hardcore want-to-see-everything-out-there, then maybe it's for you... but it's certainly nothing you should expect great things from. Lots of loopholes, stupid creatures, stupid effects, bad attempts at "jump scares"... I can't reccomend it to anyone. I did enjoy the ending bit, the atmoshpere and the whole "rose" aspect of it, and I'm interested in Elizabeth herself... but this movie, oh this movie... how horrid.
And people thought When A Stranger Calls was bad. |
Brain Damage ... Frank Henenlotter's pratical effects classic ...
"He needs the brains and I need his juice, it's as simple as that" ... this movie is so much fun |
In Dreams...I've seen pretty much all of it in separate parts since it came out, but this is the first time I sat down and watched the whole thing. Crazy movie, I liked it.

Constant Gardener
This is one of those cases for me where the story was very well executed and yet I couldn't get into it. The subject matter didn't really suck me in and I didn't really find any of the characters likable. Worth a watch, I did stay with it until the end but for me it never really took off, it just kind of hung around until the end. Some of the shots in Africa were incredible. |
Last night, me and friday13thfan (who's still sleeping right now) watched Scarecrow. Now, I'm watching Waiting... I love this movie!

House
7.5/10 Worth a look, funny and scary, somewhat cheesy, but its definently rent or even buy worthy. |
Me and friday13th fan are watching Team America: World Police right now. We're going to see Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector at 4:55 today. I can't wait!
|
Had nothing to watch last night that I hadn't seen recently so I pulled out my copy of the flick Bones.
Pretty cheesey modern horror kinda deal but it had a cool ammount of camp style with Pam Greir and Snoop Dogg, had some great laugh out loud moments. I enjoyed it possibly cause I'm a sucker for anything with Katherine Isabelle in it ;) |
Scream 3
9/10 Donnie Darko (1st time) I'm too confused and in a pondering of my existence mode right now to give this a rating.... I really have no idea what's going on... |
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
*There are some clearly marked spoilers near the end of this, incase anyone cares* First off, I should say that Im only a borderline Potter fan. I still havent got around to reading the sixth book, but Ive read the rest. On top of that, what kind of Potter fan waits until this has been out on DVD for a month to see it? Exactly. I enjoyed the 3rd one, but it didnt exactly leave me excited to watch this. I was actually quite surprised; not only was it better than #3, Id even go so far as to call it the best of the lot! Mike Newell continued the dark atmosphere that Alfonso Cuarón introduced in the third movie, which was a rather nice touch. Ive said it before and Ill say it again however, Daniel Radcliffe isnt a great actor. He's not terrible or anything, but he is dwarfed in comparison to his very talented co-stars. Emma Watson in particular, Id really like to see her in something other than the Potter saga. Surprisingly talented young actress. There was a great chemistry between the actors, especially the three leads. The supporting cast was good aswell, though the best were very underused. Alan Rickman and Gary Oldman deserved to be in this much longer than they were. Both are great actors who play great characters in the saga, and they were each on screen for a total of about 5 minutes. Ralph Finnes was great as Voldemort, very creepy and well done. The effects were great every step of the way. To sum up this rambling review, I throughly enjoyed it. *Spoilers* The one big problem that I had with it was the lack of character development on Cedric. In the book, his death was a very upsetting and powerful event, though in the film he wasnt a character that they made you care about. He was just sort of...there. That didnt ruin the film, but it definatly detracted some points... *End Spoiler* 8/10 |
Hey, return, I ended up renting Donnie Darko, Dog Soldiers and ... Scream 3... again. Bullet was gone, typically...
Can you PM me your thoughts on DD, and did you get to watch scream yet? |
The Interpreter
Im not usually into these "political intrigue" type movies, but this was better than most. The actors were fine, Kidman was better than usual, and Penn was good as always. There were a few places where the plot didnt make alot of sence, especially near the end. I wont ruin it for you, but suffice to say the UN must have pretty crappy security. I didnt really like Kidman's character very much. She was well acted, but not very consistant. Once again, I wont spoil the movie by explaining why. Aside from those minor grievances however, it was an enjoyable film that kept my attention throughout. Worth seeing once, but I wouldnt buy it. 6.5/10 |
Videodrome.
7/10, pretty damn good. I love that weird "Hellraiser" gore/horror. |
Six String Samurai
I REALLY dig this movie, the only thing that keeps me from buying it is the annoying kid. I was afraid I wouldn't like it as much now as the first time I saw it but I was wrong. |
