Kenneth Strickfadden's designs for the lab equipment set the style for every mad scientist's laboratory that came after it. The original pieces were still being used in films five decades later. The influence of this set design on other films cannot be overestimated. |
OMG! that pic is huge, Lee! [:D] But you certainly made a very good point to consider.

ROUND 2: MATCH 11 Dr. Phibes' lair, THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES (1971) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps008a26f2.jpg Vs Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital, GRAVE ENCOUNTERS (2011) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps049caf31.jpg Vs The Dance Academy in Freiburg, SUSPIRIA (1977) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps3301a4d1.jpg Vs Notre Dame Cathedral, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (1923) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps43aaf413.jpg |
Dance Academy.
Argento's fantastic use of colors for the film, including the blood red walls of the Academy, gave the place a brooding, mysterious and dark look, which is both menacing and sinister. A standout from the rest for sure. |
I will have to go with Dr. Phibes's lair.
Notre Dame Cathedral
Dr. Phibes Lair
Oh boy this is tough.Torn between Phibes, the academy and the cathedral.
Gonna go for.................damn,i cannot choose.I will have to pass on this one. |
Freiburg Dance Academy (but seriously, some of these matches are hard)
Notre Dame cathedral.
Lot's of good sets. I'll go Dr. Phibes' lair
Notre Dame Cathedral
Dance Academy
Lots a of great setting this time around and they're all worthy of winning. I'm going to cast my vote for the dance academy. As V said, the striking, dramatic use of color in the film really make the environment stand out, and the architecture is pretty amazing too.
Dance Academy - 4
Dr. Phibes' lair - 3 Notre Dame Cathedral - 3 Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital - 0 Keep voting, HDC...Argento's Suspirian Dance Academy is very close to win the match, need a vote to seal it & become another Quarter-finalists. But just right behind the academy, Dr. Phibes' lair & Notre Dame Cathedral jointly holds a very promising spot. The table can turn around at any time. Let's see who wins it finally... Quote:

ROUND 2: MATCH 12 (ALL 70s!) 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR (1979) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps2e4e97aa.jpg Vs Funeral Home, PHANTASM (1979) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psdae06fdf.jpg Vs Regan's Bedroom, THE EXORCIST (1973) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps6cb52ce0.jpg Vs Museum of Mannequins, TOURIST TRAP (1979) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps3d9a5220.jpg |
Regan's home combined with the iconic Exorcist steps would have made it a no-contest.
As it stands, the Amityville house. Again, a classic example of a location being the film's central character. |
