The feeling of impending doom is what really makes this movie. Might sound stupid but i think this version feels more real than the (awful) remake. I couldnt imagine how the audience felt after watching this at a drive thru or theater when it was first realeased. The whole way home everyone in the car was probably looking up at the sky waiting to see one of the alien spaceships breaking thru a cloud. Must have scared people senseless back in the day.

I agree with you 100%. The 1953 War Of The Worlds film is my favorite film of all time. I have probably watched it more than any other film in my collection.

Though the 2005 remake has some merit, it cannot stand up against the original in any way.

Look at the fine special effects! They didn't have computers ( or at least like we have today) at that time.

The whole scene where the Martians come out of the gully in the original was all done on a large table top!

I have it on DVD so now I won't wear it out.

*SPOILER*(I guess)

Love the gully scene. Also has one of the best endings cause is the simplest. The martians simply couldnt adapt to our germs and in return got sick and died. Simple but also the most realistic IMO.

It just goes to show ya, humans are tough shit because we live in germs, pollute the ocean!

So many horror films so little time. My favorites are all of the John Carpenter films, especially Halloween 1978, and the Zombie versions. Next up Poltergeist and The Ring.
