I'm a sucker for nostalgia what can I say. I also prefer originals to remakes, suits and make up effects over CGI, and old horror films rather than new horror films. Not saying I won't give newer things a try. I do like some newer horror films, own DVDs, and CGI can work if used sparingly. I'm complicated like that. ^^;

My dad got me into the habit of collecting DVDs to replace tapes, but I don't know. I still like keeping tapes if they're of something I really really enjoy or if they're hard to find on DVD. Not to mention when you can get a movie for less than $1 rather than $5 or more, it's a no brainer if you have and know how to run a VCR. ::smile::
Goodwill is fucking boss<33
Never be ashamed to shop there. With its system of making trash into treasures, it's an under appreciated treasure itself.

I recently acquired a Vincent Price three movie collection in a nice box featuring the legend himself. Didn't want to waste such a lovely box, so now I acquired a new pencil box. XD

Why thank you! ::smile::

Nice new addition btw! If I could find Black Sunday on dvd I'd get it. ...If I don't already have it. I have 3 movie collections with at least 50 movies per collection, and it's hard to keep track of what all they have.

horcrux2007 08-11-2015 03:16 PM

I got the blu-ray for unfriended

tfantasy 08-21-2015 10:31 AM

The only way I'm able to keep my obsession with buying movies is to buy them VERY CHEAP!! I usually don't pay over $5 for a movie (including most of my blu-rays) and lately I've been scoring $2.50 blu-rays and $1.50 regular dvds.

This week:

Revenge of the Green Dragons
A Million Ways to Die in the West
Nightcrawler
Big Eyes
Noah
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

Ooh, I've been really curious about Big Eyes. I'm on the lookout for a cheap copy myself. Be sure to share your thoughts on the movie, T!

Good grief not even Goodwill sells that cheap! What's your secret, tf?

As you may or may not know, I LOVE Tim Burton movies!! This was something different and actually based on a true story. I really enjoyed the story, acting, and atmosphere. I thought it was really sad what the guy did to the girl in the movie...don't want to give out spoilers. It reminded me of Big Fish in many ways, minus the CG and Disney style effects.

I actually had quite a few of the Big Eye prints when I was a kid, don't know what happened to them. I like to suggest to people to always rent a movie before they buy it.

Family Video. They have amazing prices, especially if they had a ton of certain titles. For starters, go straight to the nearly new section and check out the blu-rays you can get 2 for $5 and regular dvds 2 for $3. You don't have to have an account just to buy their movies either. They give you 30 days to check the movies for any defects and they will replace it for you if there are any problems. I've been buying their movies for years, most of my collection is from them.

Familyvideo.com has awesome prices too, especially if you sign up an email account with them. I recently got some newer releases for $3 a piece. Any size order is just a $1.99 shipping fee which is decent in my opinion.

Walmart also has two excellent choices now: a $5 bin and a $3.74 bin.

I didn't know you were a big Burton fan, but now I know we have that in common. His work ( almost ) never disappoints me. From what I've seen and heard about Big Eyes, your thoughts included, I'm going to take a safe gamble and buy a copy.

Oh I love Big Fish! Great story and the ending just kills me every time. (And I'm sure you can imagine what about it specifically got my attention lol)
For some reason I have yet to add it to my collection, but I about stole it from a cousin or someone that I borrowed it from cause I didn't want to give it back. ::big grin::

Thanks for the tip! I'll check them out. Don't think we have any nearby though sadly. If I'm lucky I find some good finds at dollar stores (Trick 'R' Treat being my most recent for only a buck), so that'll have to do.

Oh the ranting I could do on Burton. He's one of the few people to break my heart when it comes to franchises. He created one of my favorite movies of all time (Batman 1989), and many other timeless classics in my collection. Then he went and desecrated one of my favorite series (Dark Shadows) by making it into a movie. There will be no forgiveness for that. His latest works have just been atrocious as of late. He needs to retire while fans still have any respect for him.

Maybe he's like Stephen King, everybody's afraid to tell him you've been awful for over a decade, no matter how long your books are. And then there's his re-edits republished. Maybe Burton will start remaking his own films....

Already has, sort of. The Frankenweenie short film went full length a few decades later. I love both versions a bunch.

I know everyone has their opinion but I will always be a Stephen King and Tim Burton fan regardless of those opinions.......

I made a grave error of stopping at Wal*Mart on the way home last night. But I just got paid so it's all good.

I had a mild obsession with Quentin Collins when I was in college so I was a little too enthusiastic to add this to my collection (and hopefully my werewolf collection if it has the right episodes included!).

No more watching Hellraiser online for me! ...Well except the first two. S'alright though I'll have them eventually. It's almost the season after all...
Also missing Revelations but that's more than okay.

No disrespect to you of course, tf. I do respect Burton and King for the classics if anything. A lot of thought and talent went into those.

Completely unintentional I assure you, but thank you! ::big grin::

My nails are actually shorter than usual, or shorter than I'd normally let them be anyway. My job doesn't get along with them being any longer so I have to keep them semi-short. Ever since high school though (if I can help it) I wear them long. Freaks people out but I like it.

Roiffalo 09-13-2015 03:00 AM

Pay day so my fingers slipped and I may have added to my collection again. Three more Werewolf By Night comics, Frankenstein's Army because I can't take it i need my own copy dammit, and a mini poster of Mosquito from before mentioned film. Oh and some bone skull beads because I like to make stuff.

Killer purchases! I'm a big Barbara Steele fan and those titles are stellar works. Black Sunday, in fact, is my favorite Mario Bava film as well as being my all time favorite Steele film.
