Its probably the greatest atmospheric film of all time.

42ndStreetFreak 01-29-2005 06:38 PM

The truly excellent "High Plains Drifter"

ChEEbA 01-29-2005 06:45 PM

While we're talking movies, I'm gonna jump into the future for a lil' bit, and let you guys know what I intend to watch soon:
An jap. animated film done in 2004 called
"APPLE SEED"
I've been enjoying a lot of animated films lately, so when something of that nature becomes available to me through certain means, I have a look at it.
I checked out IMDB for some info on this film, but saw that there's also a 1988 animated film of the same name...does anybody here know anything about EITHER of them???

Still want some info on "castle of cagliostro" too...

There is many great quotes like ´It comes with a pool!´, ´That´s what they call a Jerkosaurus!´ and ´I am the action!´.

my kid loves that movie .. i must have watched it 50 times with him .. great music.

Damn fine indeed! Blows away many conventions of the Western and messes wonderfully with the viewers expectations.
Nice looking transfer on the R2 DVD as well.

The STE 01-29-2005 07:59 PM

I love that the main character totally fucks the people over at first, too. Given who he turned out to be, it makes perfect sense. Rape some of the women, make the midget the mayor and sherrif, piss on their "hospitality" while taking advantage of it, and then save all their asses and make them look like fools.

LilMissScareAll 01-29-2005 08:54 PM

I saw Hide & Seek today...now I'm watching Pet Sematary.

freaky_jigSAW 01-29-2005 10:37 PM

Fear Dot Com!!!!

Prince Of Egypt - One of the greatest animated movies!
Wonderful animation, and a big all star cast including Patrick Stewart, Michelle Pfeiffer and Sandra Bullock, but it got banned in many countries.

urgeok 01-30-2005 05:25 AM

well, i watched Jurassic Park : the Lost Word with my kid who is a complete dinosaur freak. I skipped throught the scary/violent parts though. I forgot how good the dinos looke in that film .. too bad there were so many trite and convenient plot devices.

Then i watched AVP because i had heard a few conflicting opinions and had to see it for myself.

good effects .. bad story .. it felt rushed and everything that happened was telegraphed well ahead of time.
And the last 'shot' was completely stupid and unnessessary.

Amalthea 01-30-2005 05:47 AM

Urgeok:I saw Jurassic Park - TLW in the cinema under the premiere evening, and I remember people cheering as the T Rex enters the city.
I understand you skipped those scary parts in TLW, it´s enough even to scare me!

The_Return 01-30-2005 06:33 AM

Last night I watched Atom Age Vampire, it was pretty good, but I probably wont watch it again.

This morning, I saw Last Man on Earth. Wow! That movie was amazing! Best VP film Ive seen aside from it and the Pendulum:)

some stupid scenes..especially that dog scene...simply dumb and not believable....

Yeah....maybe given 'normal' plotting rules...but it still works and is as wonderfully deranged and stylistic as the rest of the film.
Like the conversation we had on "The Beyond" and it's spiders... this type of event was never designed for logical thinking or for questioning...it's for enjoying.
Argento's best film in my view.

Yes, Dario Argento is often named in the same breath as Lucio Fulci for providing lazy/illogical/surreal/nonsensical/inspired/
fantastic/unique plot developments (delete as appropriate).

Secret Of NIMH 2:Good, but not well done sequel to Secret of NIMH, where Timmy and his girlfriend Jenny are going to save Jenny´s parents from NIMH.
Great humor and music, but the animation and story could be better.

Elliot_Voorhees 01-30-2005 11:57 PM

Well, I just watched most of "Poltergeist" before it fucking cut off, and this is rented. well, before that I watched Friday the 13th VII [Again!] and before that was American Werewolf in Paris. Catch, Ell Voorhees.

Maybe thats true..havent seen all the D. Argento films....but I cant see why its better when it 's Argento....to me the movie could have been sooo much better if he had stayed more logical and believable........i'm not sure if its designed or simply lack of a better plot.. ...
I think that the acting and story was better in "Deep Red"...maybe its because he manage his own language better ?....That he can communicate better in Italien...
His english isnt very good...neither is mine :)

slasherman 01-31-2005 06:41 AM

"Some Kind Of Monster"..pretty good documentary about Metallica.....a lot of bitching and back stabbing :)

"One Missed Call"..a japanes ghost story....not very good....out of ten...not more than three 3/10

urgeok 01-31-2005 06:53 AM

Then .. i watched 'Guess Who's Coming To Dinner'.
Yes kids, there are well acted films out there ...

One of my favorite films! Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn were fantastic, too. Who was the actress who played their daughter?

urgeok 01-31-2005 07:23 AM

Katherine Houghton ... not sure if she did anything after that ..

My weekend viewing consisted of "The Funky Meters live from New Orleans" on saturday night and "The Grudge" last night. This movie gets panned by a lot of members here but I thought it was just as good as the original, with a few added scares. I'm just glad the original director was used.

urgeok 01-31-2005 07:47 AM

i still want to see it ...
I thought the origional was effectively creepy

Hmmm strange because I usually like ghost movies..but this one felt just empty...and the plot felt unfinished...
I didnt like "Audition" either because it also felt unfinished... and to much John Woo stuff....
Maybe I dont like that Takashi Miike guy  ....
I dont hope so because I know he have made many films..

ChEEbA 02-01-2005 04:48 AM

Hey, sorry to interrupt, but I don't wanna use a whole thread...since movies are getting discussed on and off in here anyways - Has anyone here seen the 80's animated film
"Grave of the Fireflies"?
I've heard it's a realistic wartime story about children...other than that, I don't know much, should I see this film?
Any info would be appreciated.
