Rampo Noir, It's three short stories, very Lynchian, more arty than scary, but good all the same, 7/10

slayer666 11-27-2006 06:22 PM

Premonition. Not at all scary but it held my attention.

slayer666 11-30-2006 03:41 AM

Ringu.

I had seen The Ring before and was not impressed. I picked up Ringu in a blind buy because I had been assured that it was way better than The Ring. Personally, it didn't strike me as any better. In fact, I actually found it less scary than the American remake, making it the first time I've ever preferred the American version over the Asian version.

Wow, that's strange. The Ring scared the shit out of me! I'll watch Ringu soon. Glup.

did you see the second one? or just the first?

slayer666 12-03-2006 04:48 AM

I caught the Korean flick, H, on Sundance last night. More thriller than horror and not particularly original. Still, I enjoyed it.

That's the last one I saw too. I'm with you...more thriller than horror, but it's just as confusing in places as most Asian horror. I think my problem was trying to keep all the names straight. Pretty good movie overall.

BloodRedFlower 12-03-2006 10:20 AM

Ju-On

Creepy as hell, but confusing too. When it ended I was clueless. As usual, I had to go read reviews to fully understand the plot. I think I was expecting something more twisted than a passion crime to be behind those ghost appearences. Or maybe my mind is to western to understand eastern art.

Great movie though, the little boy was really scary.

Just the first. Is the second good?

slayer666 12-05-2006 03:14 AM

R-Point. Loved it, although I did miss the long-haired ghost kid.

"The happiness of the katakuris"

Horror wise you canīt help being disappointed, about this movie. But you gotta admire Miikes capability to surprise and do something different everytime. :)

noctuary 12-08-2006 06:56 PM

Just got my Criterion version of Onibaba, so I watched that last night. Utterly fantastic film. I really couldn't praise this one enough. It's a solid 10/10, one of the best Asian films ever made.

horror movie?

slayer666 12-09-2006 04:26 AM

Nightmare. I caught this great Korean flick on Fear.net last night. Recommended to fans of Ju-on, Ringu, Dark Water, and the like.

Uzumaki. Did not care for this one at all.

heebiejeebies 12-10-2006 07:47 AM

Dead Waves -- Not a bad movie, but not a good movie either. The ending was a bit disappointing, and there were more than a few holes in the plot. The whole ashy substance reminded me too much of Kairo, which made me want to see that movie again.

On a side note...does anyone know what else the lead actor has been in? I know I've seen him in something else, but for the life of me I can't remember what.

slayer666 12-11-2006 05:45 PM

Infection. Really liked it. Highly recommended.

Japanese/Korean horror

Would like to know what eveyone's favourite movies were this year, the ones
that took you over the edge, most are now on dvd, but one that i am screaming for is the upcoming "Pans Labryinth" can't wait!!! Although not Asian
but one of my favourites "The Descent", still love this franchise "Final Destination 3". One of the most eagerly anticipated Korean horrror and dramas
soon to be released but already proud owner of a copy!and it's a real gem
"The Host" stunning!!!! "Sympathy For Lady Vengeance","Cinderella, The Pan
Brothers' "Re-Cycle", "Death Note", and "Takashi Mikes"" weird, gruesome,
"Imprint" although the acting is very poor, but content is extremely nasty
"Art Of The Devil 2". Would like to hear your thoughts,

slayer666 12-16-2006 05:19 AM

The Maid. I will have to watch it again, but it didn't do much for me on the first viewing. I think the weak story made it difficult to care about the characters. However, I won't completely dismiss it until I've seen it again.

amazing art direction and cinematography make this yakuza flick a true standout of the genre

How was it? I've been wanting to see that one.

darkmoon 12-23-2006 08:07 PM

The last one I saw was Marebito...very odd:eek: .A tale of Two sisters and The Eye were pretty good.

slayer666 12-24-2006 05:23 AM

I watched Booth last night. I didn't find it all that effective as a horror film because it was not even slightly scary. However, it was pretty good as more of a supernatural thriller. Worth watching as long as you aren't looking to be scared.

slayer666 12-27-2006 03:32 AM

Cello. This was a rare blind buy because I got a good deal on the Tartan version. It was good but not great. I should probably reserve judgment until watching it again.

Honestly, I don't think I noticed much difference while watching it. Now that you point it out, it did seem like they moved a bit faster than usual. I'll pay closer attention the next time I watch it.

Audition...

heebiejeebies 12-31-2006 08:55 AM

The Uninvited -- It wasn't what I was expecting, but I'm not really sure what it was I was expecting. There isn't any true "horror" as I saw it, although the extras kept talking about it being a truly terrifying movie. The movie is terrifying in a slow-burn kind of way and definitely sticks with you after watching it, but I don't really know why it sticks with you. I'll have to watch it a second time to make sure I got the gist of what was going on, but if someone can explain the significance of the table I would be much obliged.

Angra 01-02-2007 12:40 AM

"White lady"

The first 2 minutes were good, the rest was unimaginative shit.

The most annoying thing about White Lady is that the poor filipino actors, for some weird reason, has to pronounce every fourth line in english. That really doesnīt help neither the movie or the actors.

bigcherry 01-02-2007 01:55 AM

I must admit i don't know much about "White Lady" but i will check out some reviews. Finally bought my copy 2 weeks ago, a little comedy, but the buzz
