First of all, Exorcist is a fine choice!
But seriously, why is Alien not horror? Cause the monster killing people isn't on Earth?
Think about it... what sci-fi subject is being espoused and contemplated in Alien? Interstellar cargo ship salvage law? Futuristic corporate behavior? Hmm... how about none... no sci-fi subject. It merely has a futuristic space setting for a monster to menace the characters, and add a sense of isolation & no outside help. Granted, there's some interesting fictional biology; but acid blood is merely a plot device that stops the characters from just shooting the monster.
And you're not actually saying a film can't be horror and sci-fi, right? (Even though, as I just argued, it's far more horror than sci-fi. And IMDB also lists horror & sci-fi) ::smile::
