Or you just want to stop the spread of a disease...

HIV cases increase in places where gay marriage is allowed.

Or you support a traditional family unit regardless of religion. Neither candidate supported gay marriage this go around (although they both supported full rights for same-sex couples).

There's never been a candidate who supports gay marriage...Not even Hillary...She's for civil unions, too.

That might be true, but I'd have thought otherwise...

Yes, you would think that if people were married they would be monogamous and would be less likely to spread a disease...Then again, perhaps it relates to the area in which people are more open to the gay lifestyle (which would be why gay marriage was accepted) and in the area in general AIDS cases are higher because homosexuals are more likely to contract AIDS...Could be purely regional demographics

Cite your sources.

Know what that made me think of? The fact that apparently STDs are rampant amongst the elderly. They sit around their retirement homes and just get it on. Maybe in order to decrease the spread of HIV and other STDs we should just ban the elderly.

You can also look up the fact that homosexuals tend to cheat more often... maybe it's because they're not afforded the "luxury" of a committed marriage. Anyway, let em' get married or not I personally could care less.

"Since homosexual marriage became “legal” the rates of HIV / AIDS have gone up considerably in Massachusetts."

"A study in the journal AIDS reported that in Holland, where “gay marriage” has been legal since 2001, HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases are soaring among homosexual men. The study notes that “partnered” homosexuals have “outside” lovers, although fewer than the “unpartnered,” and that men in these relationships are still contracting the AIDS virus at alarming rates."

I understand it and will now explain it. (My understanding and explanation should not be mistaken for agreement though.) ;)

The majority of the country is Christian. Marriage is a sacrament. The Christian definition of marriage is that it is a union between a man & woman vowing to God to spend their life together.

Where we, as a country, went completely wrong was that we forgot about keeping church seperate from state and began giving married couples special privelages that others don't get. So now Marriage has a legal definition as well as a Christian one. That is where we erred.

The Christians are against gay marriage because it infringes on their definition of marriage. The gays are for it simply because they want the same rights a married couple receives from the government.

This whole fiasco could have been avoided if marriage had just been left a religious term to begin with. Instead, the legal system could have called religious marriage a civil union and then granted special rights and privelages to civil unions, gay or straight, religious or secular.

*shrug*

Seems obvious, but because our government already fucked it up. I don't see how they can fix it now, aside from just calling marriage a civil union in legal terms and granting all current marital rights to all civil unions.

Basically, the religious folks want to protect the meaning of one of their sacraments. The gay people just want equal treatment. It's all caught up in the verbage being used though, which is pretty ridiculous to me.

HIV is not a gay disease. Places where gay marriage is allowed have other people in them, who are straight and/or drug users. There is still a lot of people transmitting the disease through intravenous drug use and heterosexual sex.

I don't think that's reason enough to ban gay marriage. Yes, Gay men are more likely to get HIV. But that doesn't mean they cause it. HIV doesn't choose who it goes for. It can happen to anyone and so if Gay people can't get married for that reason, anybody with HIV can't get married. Anybody with any Sexually Transmitted Disease Can't get married. But from there, it would get worse. Maybe they can't have any sexual relationships. Maybe no intimacy, in case it develops to sex. I'm not saying you would feel that way, but if you make one law like that, it would have to continue going to be fair.

Also, yes, Gay men cheat. But even then, most will not sleep around all the time. And most who are married will just stay with their partners. They may occasionally sleep with one or two people, as a straight person might. But if they're not committed at all, they are going to sleep with even more different people.

Why is it that gay men are more likely to get HIV?I've really never had a full understanding of that.
