Van Helsing

cheebacheeba 02-25-2006 05:52 AM

Spal watched Van Helsing today too, I saw most of it, for the third time. It's NOT horror...that's the key point. It's a monster flick in the style of the films that MAY have scared people many a year ago. At this point, it's more of an action adventure, and if you accept it as that, it's pretty enjoyable.

Just watched the first 2/3 of the neverending story, original.
This would have to be one of the best fantasy films ever...cool characters, visually brilliant, with a great score. Good storyline, interesting magical characters, and a nice dark edge to it. It really is a shame how much the unneccessary sequels assfucked the frenchise. I mean, sure, 2 was "ok", but the cartoon, the series, the dreadful #3?? fuck no.
I actually heard there was a fourth...I'd be interested to know if anyone here has seen THAT, but I've little interest in following up on this myself.

Fangoria's Blood Drive

This is a collection of short films that Fangoria released as part of a contest. If these were the best submissions they received, I'd hate to see the worst ones. Generally bad all the way around. The host, Rob Zombie, seemed like he was either stoned or bored out of his mind during his sequences. Not at all recommended. Overall: 3/10

Watched Candyman 2 with my girlfriend last night. It was OK, but I liked the original better.

hellfire1 02-25-2006 07:28 AM

damn. welcome back d'lo. :)

i just got back from the new world. it's weird to see how much it got trashed. i thought it was a beautiful movie, something you have to experience and not just watch. i even liked colin farrell.

Ultimate Avengers: The Movie

Classic animation is put forth with classic superhoes, and it's not the Justice League! Ultimate Avengers is beatifully drawn, bt not well written. The first 45 minutes played out like a detective story, since they were pretty much looking for superheroes to team up with the cryogenically frozen (not on purpose either) Captain America, find Iron Man and ask him about some metal suit (???). I forgot already what it was that they were looking for. The action is so-so, but nothing special. And it only ran for 71 minutes! What a load of bullshit! A rental at best just for the beautiful animation and the classic superheroes.

2 and a half stars out of 5.

The Man (Sam Jackson, Eugene Levy)

Another 'odd couple' cop buddy movie that wouldnt have been worth watching if it wasn't for Levy. It was ok .. no suprises but it's always fun to watch him work ..

Suspect Zero

heard good things though.

he's no stranger to menacing rolls ..
dont know how scary he'd be in real life .. he's about the size (and appearance) of a garden gnome.

pulls it off real well on the big screen though !

Awesome flick, glad I actually got to finally watch it. Love the music in that movie, it just never lets up. Felt like I was gonna go crazy by the end.

The Toxic Avenger Part II :
Tackling Toxic Troubles from Tromaville to Tokyo

The first Toxic Avenger movie was awesome, I loved it and will probobly go down as one of my favorite independent films of all time. Because I loved the first so much, I was expecting alot from TTA II, and surprisingly enough. It delivered the goods. Although not nearly as gory as the first. It still had two awesome scenes of brutality

Squished by a wheelchair
and a nasty live butchering!

This movie was entertaining the whole way through. And made me laugh on more than one occasion. Great Music. Good all-around

The Rocky Picture Show

It's about damn time I lost my virginity to this great film! This is hands-down the most fun I've had ever watching a movie, and am definitely getting it to put in my collection sometime shortly. I was dancing and singing along the whole time (which I've never done before). The cast was great (especially Tim Curry)! Though, Tim Curry should never be allowed to wear nylons and must always wear pants! I love this movie!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: #3 on my top ten movies list.

5 out of 5 stars

That movie was ok... But not really anything special, imo.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

This is the second time Ive seen this movie, and I enjoyed it just as much as my first viewing. I wont say if I thought it was better or worse than the original, as it was an entirely different movie, and largely uncomparable to the 1971 film. Depp was great as always, his Wonka was so crazy it was almost scary. The supporting cast was great as well, including many Burton regulars. Christopher Lee makes a nice apearance as Wonka's dentist father. Very good movie with phenominal effects, if you haven't seen it, go rent yourself a copy.
