Watched The Machinist last night. Great flick! I can't believe Christian Bale lost that much weight for the movie. He truly looked awful. 8/10

The Mad Monster [1942]

As far as Mad Scientist B-movies go, this was pretty good. George Zucco steals the screen as always, playing his typical mad doc role to perfection. Glen Strange also throws in a decent performance [for this kind of movie] as the groundskeeper turned into a Werewolf. If you're into this kind of flick like I am, this is highly recomended. Otherwise, you might as well skip it. Most of the actors suck, the story drags, and it borrows *cough*steals*cough heavily from The Wolf Man.

7/10

Waiting...

A very funny and surprising comedy romp. This is the type of comedy flick I've been waiting for years to see. Love the penis-game. I gotta try that sometime.

5 out of 5 stars

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

I have nothing to say about WG but that I love this movie. The animation is deligantly beautiful (though it still doesn't beat Corpse Brides's stop-motion animation though). Very funny for the kids and adults. A lot of in-jokes (like when Wallace is naked and Gromit puts a box on him that says "May contain nuts") and great movie references (loved the King Kong bit).

5 out of 5 stars

God am I glad to watch two 5-star movies back-to-back again!

House on The Edge Of The Park

Overall I thought this was a pretty good film. In my opinion this movie came across to me much better than Craven's "Last House on The Left" mainly because of being watered down with stupid humor.."House On The Edge of The Park" delivers some pretty decent scenes of blood and rape and delivers the goods in a pretty brutal way.

However, the music was some of the worst 80's music that was ever made. Absolutly Terrible.
I also highly disliked the twist Ending.

B- I think thats a pretty decent grade for what was presented.

Crash

I don't know about this movie... I guess I'd say it's highly over-rated because I heard a lot about how good it was and then I saw it and it didn't do anything for me. I think it was supposed to be an examination of racism in today's society, but it just came off as a movie about a bunch of stupid, ignorant people. All star cast so the acting is fine. There's not much action. Kinda boring movie overall that teaches us how the scum of society come in all colors and walks of life. If they were trying to say they average American is as racist and vile as the majority of characters in this movie, then I totally disagree.

Didn't like it, but it was well made so I'll be lenient on the grade.

Well Hello Fellow Horror Peeps! May I say what a pleasure it is to finally find a quality forum of in depth views and knowledge of my favourite genre of film!
I have been reading over last few weeks of peoples fave films, reviews and basic chit-chat and have to say have enjoyed every minute!
I'd like to join you all on this forum and give some insights into some of my movie experiences and hope that in time I will be as good as you lot at giving reviews!!

I reside in manchester UK which is great for a few reasons but I feel mainly because it is the home of Manchester United football club, I also get to visit two great Metal Clubs (another passion of mine is rock music) and it always rains and is often dark which is great weather to watch our classic horror movies to - so I'm sure I have bored you all enough now - I will embark on my recent forays into the world of film!

PeaSoupintheye 02-09-2006 09:28 AM

Most Recent Film

Sin City - 8/10 - without doubt a classic. I can say no more than what has been said already!

Irreversible - 6/10 - A hard-hitting french nasty film - found the rape scene quite disturbing but overall a neat movie. Loved the head smashing scene with the fire ext.

Skeleton key - 7/10 - Loved this to be honest. The end of the movie really made it for me. Quality.

The Descent - 8.5/10 - This movie made me lose half of my popcorn down the back of the chair!! Some great jumps - a great Brit Horror.

Creep - 7.5/10 - Another jumpy one - really worth checking out

The Red Monks - hmm, this was part of the Fulci collection but not made by fulci?? I'll be kind and give this 5/10 for the head in a picnic basket scene. Many better Italian horror films than this.

Hide & Seek - 7/10 - Unlike most on here I really liked it, I admit t obeing tired and not concentrating fully but I didn't work out the twist so was pleasantly surprised.

PeaSoupintheye 02-09-2006 09:35 AM

White Noise - 6.5/10 - Again another that is slaughtered on here but I liked it...

Ghost Lake - 1/10 - I really thought this was shite to be honest. Poorly acted, crap effects, was cheap - looked cheap and not in a good way. Does make a good cup coaster though.

Blood Moon - 2.5/10 - Cheap, Shoddy low budget slasher. Millions of better slashers out there - so why watch this?

Ned Kelly - Not a horror but an ok film hmm 6/10

Valiant - 6.5/10 - thought this was quite good but no where near as good as the Pixar classics

Incredibles 9/10 - Classic.

House of Wax - I really enjoyed this - I admit I have not seen the original but I heard really bad things and found myself pleasantly surprised. 7/10 (mainly for the Paris Hilton death)

Madagascar - 6/10 - was slightly dissapointed with this. An Ok film - wil lwatch again soon to make my mind up.

Kingdom of Heaven - 6/10 - Found this film slightly confusing - maybe down to my alcohol intake at the time hmmm

PeaSoupintheye 02-09-2006 09:40 AM

the Aviator - 6.5/10 - I thought this was quite good - particualrly liked Cate Blanchett's performance.

War of The Worlds - Thought this was good. Could have been better but was a good popcorn movie - 7/10

The Card Player - I adore Argento but this was too much of a hollywood film for me and where was all the gore?? Was dissapointed in this so sorry Dario - 5.5/10

Tonight could be time for Battlefield Baseball, Infection, Shikoku or NOTLD Remake...hmm

Heebie Jeebies

I don't know what in the world possessed me to rent a movie called "Heebie Jeebies" but god knows I regretted it afterwards. It's not flat out bad, but it's not good either. Just terribly mediocre all the way around. Some unintentional amusing moments resulting from the histrionics of the no-talents they got to play in this thing. All in all, lame and forgettable. Overall: 3/10

I, Zombie: A Chronicle of Pain

This movie was released by Fangoria, and as you all know Fangoria is pretty picky on the indies it chooses to release.
But this movie although had deffinatly an extremely very low budget. I thought the acting, and the storyline were all very well done. The gore was ok, pretty decent parts. The only real bad thing about this film is its pretty damn depressing. You end this movie feeling really bad for the charactor named Mark. Overall I think this movie was well dont and deserves nothing other than a

...Must be about 100 times better than the first then, not accounting for poor taste.

Last thing I watched, where not exactly a movie, was the first two episodes of BBC production of Neil Geimans: Neverwhere.
I'm not sure at this point what to make of it, but it's sure an interesting storyline, kinda "far out" like a lot of Geimans stuff, and quite watchable so far.
I'm SURE the comic would be better...I'll have to have a look at that too.

Sleepaway Camp (again...).

Best slasher movie hands down.

noctuary 02-10-2006 07:19 AM

Cookers

A pretty decent film about speed-freaks cooped up in an isolated farmhouse while they cook up a big batch of meth. As time goes by, they begin to fall prey to delusions and hallucinations that just may be real. There were problems with the story, but nothing serious. Worth a watch. Overall: 6.5/10

Itīs not a comic, itīs a novel. And itīs one of the best books iīve ever read. And the BBC production is a pure insult!!

Fair enough, I just assumed comic on account of the Gaiman stuff I usually read.

Just Like Heaven

A boring, unorthodox romantic comedy that brought nothing new to the table (except for the fact that Reese Witherspoon was *SPOILER* in a coma and talking with Mark Ruffalo in a spirit form). Think "Sixth Sense" meets chick flick. Get the picture?

Elizabethtown

One of the most surprising movies of the year! At first, I wasn't into it. Hated the Drew character and his tedious rants. But , about twenty minutes in, I grew into his character and began to root for him to get the girl (whose name is Claire). Sure, Alec Baldwin was underused (could've given him a better role) and it did start off slow, but once you get into Elizabehttown, you just can't get out!

John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars

Finally, John Carpenter has returned to the director's chair to bring us a fun, but slow at times, ride of ghosts, recruits, war, and the planet Mars. The casting was great (Jason Statham kicked ass here) and I loved the set design. Though, I could've done without Ice Cube's brother and posse being found. It just slowed the pace of the movie down for awhile. Overall, Ghosts of Mars was a fun ride I'll definitly be taking again soon.
