Rover Red Charlie #1.
Get it now.
No doubt there'll be comparisons to WE3 but in my mind it's a pretty different sort of vibe. I actually can't wait to read the rest of this series.

This comic. I don't even know what's going on or how to explain it but.. it's beautiful. I have read the first two issues now, because of my love of Kelly Sue. After reading the first one, I had to tell everyone I know that they need to read each issue at least twice. I personally read them both three times. Once for plot, once for the poetry of the words, and the last for the art. Emma Rios has a better understand of page flow than any comic artist I've seen. There's one particular panel in the second issue where a characters hair wraps around the page, going outside of the box and onto the second page. A single strand of hair deviates from that on the first page and your eyes just follows exactly where it needs to be to see all the action.

It is truly a work of art.

Locke and Key series by Joe Hill.
I am really enjoying this book.

cheebacheeba 01-29-2014 01:25 PM

Serenity - Leaves on the Wind

Just got the first issue.
For those that were unaware, there have been multiple Firefly/Serenity comics.
I myself haven't read them as yet...though have been collecting them.

This one, I couldn't resist - because it's set after the events of the movie...it's kind of like watching another episode.

Seems pretty cool so far.
Wouldn't it be great if they made a new ongoing comic-based "series" as they've done with Buffy/Angel?

Anyways yeah, it's nice to visit the 'verse again.

Thanks for the heads up on this - I am a big Garth Ennis and hadn't heard of this. Read issues 1+2 so far, pretty good - reminded me a lot of Plague Dogs.

cheebacheeba 02-05-2014 06:23 PM

I haven't read Plague dogs, but yeah it seems pretty solid.

I'm collecting RRC at the moment 'til it's done.
I've taken to doing that with the finite series - just as I do a lot of TV shows these days. What with the sporadic and split up releases of both of them, to me it just makes for a better experience.

Just about to get into this weeks haul, I will mention anything, worth mentioning.

Ferox13 02-09-2014 02:38 AM

Reading some old Peter Bagge at the moment- nearly thru this:

Any equine action?

My last read comics:

Thor: The Vikings - Nice idea, disappointing in execution.

Started re-reading Hellblazer - loving it. My favorite all time title. I love Garth Ennis' Dangerous Habits arc:

zombiekilling 03-12-2014 04:22 AM

the walking dead

AnonEDust 03-14-2014 03:02 PM

Serenity: leaves on the wind, and an old Thorgal graphic novel. Thorgal is great.

cheebacheeba 03-16-2014 03:00 AM

Just got done with the first issue of "Avengers Undercover".
Very much a sequel series to "Avengers Arena", so if you want to follow up on that and the characters from The Runaways, check it out.

Doesn't seem like a bad premise so far.

Vodstok 03-17-2014 05:07 PM

I've been out of the comic loop for a while, but I am seriously considering throwing down some cash for the new Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel comics. I like what I've seen so far.

Ferox13 03-26-2014 03:20 AM

Back reading some Peter Blagg Hate.
Read the Nick Fury Garth Ennis stuff which was a good read.

Also Captain Swing and the Electrical Pirates of Cindery Island which is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel by Warren Ellis - set in a steam punk London.

cheebacheeba 03-26-2014 08:09 PM

Superior Spider-man #30.
....Fucking FINALLY...

CreepyCarrie 03-28-2014 05:33 PM

The X-Files Season 10 comics. I've been picking them up as they've been coming out.

FryeDwight 04-03-2014 04:26 AM

Re-reading all my old EC comics and enjoying them just as much as the first time. So audacious and ahead of their time, especially the SHOCK SUSPENSE STORIES. Always found the TALES FROM THE CRYPT series so bland compared to the old comics.

I really want to read this.

...

Most recently, I read the first three trades of Saga, written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Fiona Staples. I absolutely adore this bizarre space odyssey.

Also, the first trade of Rat Queens by Kurtis J. Wiebe. I absolutely ADORED this comic. If you're a fan of dungeon-crawlers and RPG's then this is a must-read for you. Well-written cast of badass female adventurers - I can't wait until the next TP is published.

Hawkeye, Vol. 1: My Life as a Weapon by Matt Fraction. This was a fun read. Not necessarily something that I'd continue (I worry that it'll get repetitive) but I like the fact that it's just about Hawkeye during his downtime. Little adventures. Personally, though, I'd prefer a Kate Bishop-centric comic.

Currently I'm reading East of West by Jonathan Hickman but I might wind up putting it down. Here's the Amazon description:

Quote:

This is the world. It is not the one we wanted, but it is the one we deserved. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse roam the Earth, signaling the End Times for humanity, and our best hope for life, lies in DEATH!
I'm just not sure if I'm in the mood for something moody and abstract... The art is really stunning, though...

That's more or less what it turns into.
Without Clint, even.

Oh, sweet. I'll keep reading then. ::cool::

Ferox13 05-14-2014 10:31 AM

Was looking at Rat Queens, wasn't sure if I would like it. Might give it a go now.

Going to start:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...dRockets31.jpg

Read it for a while when it came out, so going to revisit it. I may just read Jaime Hernandez,'s Hopey/Maggie stories all the way through then go back to the Palomar stuff.

ChronoGrl 05-26-2014 04:16 PM

Definitely give Rat Queens a try; I thought it was really clever and fun.

If you like Love and Rockets, you'd probably like Adrian Tomine - His art is incredible and I love his vignettes.

...

The hubby and I just picked up another stash of comic books yesterday...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps4593bae8.jpg

So far...

Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction - I read the first TP and was genuinely impressed... It took me a while to finally pick it up... I was worried that it would be exploitative and icky, but it's really not... It's about sexual awakening and empowerment - Odd and liberating. Interested to see where it goes.

North 40 by Aaron Williams - I picked this up because I'm a fan of Fiona Staples' art... Not a bad little work of horror so far.

Flex Mantallo by Grant Morrison - The hubby read it and loved it and desperately wants me to read it... I'm not necessarily the biggest Grant Morrison fan but how can I resist those muscles??

The Best of From The Tomb by Peter Normanton - The hubby says it's a pretty impressive and detailed tome that makes him want to collect the original comics.

Ferox13 05-27-2014 10:18 AM

I got distracted from reading 'Love and Rockets' by going back to Hellblazer...

Caught up on the latest issues of UBER:

Just finished North 40 by Aaron Williams

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps2995c8c5.jpg

I thought it started out pretty strong - A good little Southern Gothic tale sprinkled with Cthulhu... Gorgeous artwork, great creepy beasties (grimaced at least once with the creepiness)... But it felt abridged and it ended waaaay too soon. It felt incomplete.

Monkey Astronaut 06-03-2014 09:01 AM

I've never been a fan of the the Riverdale gang but Afterlife With Archie has been really impressive. Francesco Francavilla artwork throughout is absolutely incredible.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ztFAOWDrlN...0/scan0003.jpg

Tim Seeley's Revival is refreshingly imaginative. The Jenny Frison cover artwork is gorgeous. Mike Norton does a great job with the interior artwork and the characters are all dynamic.

http://www.comicbookdb.com/graphics/...2725_large.jpg

The Wake has been an interesting science fiction horror mash-up from Batman writer Scott Snyder told both in the present and a post apocalyptic future.

Vodstok 06-03-2014 06:53 PM

Let's see. Playing catch up on Gail Simone's titles, so Red Sonja, Batgirl, Tomb Raider and The Movement. Also Captain Marvel because she kicks ass (as does Kelly Sue)

If you like KSD you should check out Pretty Deadly. The Emma Ríos artwork is gorgeous.

ImmortalSlasher 06-07-2014 05:04 PM

I'm behind of comics but there are a few out and up coming ones I want to check out. I believe a new comic from the Walking Dead writer is coming out soon. Also one called Caliban that looks good. Plus a new Vampirella series just started.

cheebacheeba 06-08-2014 04:22 AM

"Original Sin" Issues 1-3.
Shaping up to be one of Marvels more interesting events in a while.

missmacabre 06-29-2014 11:19 PM

Is anyone in here reading Nailbiter? It's written by Joshua Williamson, who also writes Ghosted. Both are very good and fit the horror genre.

Also who is going to be checking out The Fade Out? It's a new comic by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, the duo who brought you the soon the be finished Fatale. I can't wait for it, they're my favourite creative team and it's going to be centered around the filming of a film noir gone wrong.

The Fade Out doesn't come out for another month or so. But it's on my list.

I got Outcast. That's the new comic by the Walking Dead writer. It's a pretty good horror tale for the first issue. People are talking about it becoming a TV show as well.

knife_fight 07-30-2014 11:05 PM

I'm reading Outcast also. I've heard that the movie/tv rights have already been sold.

Also reading "Hack & Slash" and "Revival", both of which are horror related.

In non-horror comics, I've been working my way through the Bone omnibus. Love that comic.

ImmortalSlasher 07-30-2014 11:29 PM

Looking forward to getting Outcast #2 soon.

Ferox13 08-18-2014 12:06 AM

Just finished Bad Blood - an enjoyable Vampire romp about a boy with cancer and his run in with a blood sucking clan:

http://www.brutalashell.com/wp-conte...ad-blood-2.jpg

Just started Loveless - a Western Comic about a soldier who fought for the South to his town and farm which is now under Union Control:

Fade Out #1 coming out on Wednesday. Can't wait.

Ferox13 09-04-2014 12:35 AM

At last I get around to reading this:

http://img1.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/n5/n27941.jpg

missmacabre 10-02-2014 07:59 PM

Just checking in to say that the Fade Out is confirmed as really freaking great.

Nailbiter is holding strong. Great reveal in the last issue!

Thor is a lady now, fucking A!

If you haven't already checked it out, there's this one-shot called Masterplasty. It's gigantic, colourful and beautiful. I mean, it's huge.

Thumb resize.

FryeDwight 10-06-2014 08:27 AM

Cool co-worker let me borrow Volumes #2-#5 of THE WALKING DEAD..like the TV show better, but these are really good as well.

ImmortalSlasher 10-06-2014 09:04 PM

A new Sabrina the Teenage Witch comes out tomorrow. I never read the comic or watched the TV show. But the preview of it looks dark.

DaisyChain 10-13-2014 08:53 AM
