Alien
Halloween

Very interesting Final Four HDC picked: [Jaws (1975), Alien (1979), The Exorcist (1973), Halloween (1978)]. All from the 1970's...

I'm also surprised how The Exorcist has just thumped the mighty Halloween. Didn't see that coming. Classic battle between Jaws and Alien... pitting two of the most prolific directors in film history.

Feel free to comment.

And so... Alien has exploded out of the belly of Jaws by 1; the power of The Exorcist compels the Boogeyman to fade by 5. They move on.

And now, for HDC's Best Horror Film All-time:

Alien (1979) .. Vs .. The Exorcist (1973)

.

Yeah, that was a strong final four, and a ringing endorsement for Horror in the 70's.

I was surprised at how easily the exorcist took out Halloween as well. I would have thought it would be way closer.

It's been fun, Sculpt. Thanks for putting this together and seeing it through. Thanks to the HDC'rs who stuck with it too.

My final vote is for......

Alien.
In spit of the fact that I've recently gained a higher appreciation for The Exorcist, Alien remains one of Horrors pinnacle moments. I think it's far more entertaining and has held up better through the decades.

Alien

Because it didn't lie in a bed the whole damn movie.

I agree, I think in many ways the 70's were the golden age of Horror... top budgets, actors, directors and distribution; it was everywhere. Plus serious subjects, depth and originality.

Alien has held up extremely well. The cinematography and sound are sharp even by today's standards. Actually, they're pretty much indistinguishable from a 2015 space film.

LOL! Linda Blair probably did plenty of napping during filming.

The Exorcist

(it was a tough choice though)

Anthropophagus 12-12-2015 04:16 AM

Jaws.

I don`t care who the final is between.Jaws is the one for me.

But since you want my vote i shall cast The Exorcist.

Exorcist. Alien is sci-fi not horror.
