I've noticed the cover of The House on Pine Street several times and the story sounds like something for me, but for different reasons I've either been too tired or not in the right mood to give it a try. Well, now that you asked I decided to sit down and watch it. I don't mind when odd sounds and doors opening and closing by themselves are being used in the beginning of a haunted house movie, but when that's all that's happening throughout the entire thing it pisses me off. Also, i got really tired of looking at the main characters confused and irritated facial expressions. Didn't matter if she was home alone or at a party she still had the same expression, as if she was constantly thinking "someone has farted and it's not me". So, to sum it up. Didn't like it. |

Deadpool (2016)
I guess if Ant-Man and of all people can get his own movie (and a pretty good one at that), then Deadpool can finally get his own movie. Luckily, Fox bounced back from its monumental flop Fantastic Four last August with the pretty decent R-rated comic book flick Deadpool. In Deadpool, Wade Wilson is a mercenary in New York City when he meets a woman named Vanessa at a local bar. They hook up, and a year later, Wade pops the question with a ring pop which she accepts. Wade then collapses and is later diagnosed with terminal cancer. One night at the bar, he meets a recruiter from a secret program who offers an experimental treatment for his cancer. Wade declines and leaves, but he later reconsiders the offer and leaves Vanessa in the middle of the night to receive the treatment. The procedure involves getting tortured for weeks on end until a mutation occurs, and Wade is severely disfigured in the process, although his cancer is cured, and he's practically immortal. Wade escapes the facility that looks exactly like the torture chamber in Hostel and vows revenge on the person who did this to him. Oh, and somehow he's aware that he's in a movie. For all its intents and purposes, Deadpool is a very fun and sometimes funny movie, although not all the jokes hit, and it gets a little exhausting towards the end. The ridiculous, over-the-top violence also makes the movie unnaturally entertaining for a comic book flick. Hopefully more R-rated superhero movies are made in the future. Deadpool's ability to break the fourth wall also makes the film more interesting, but it causes the plot to suffer somewhat. A lot of the backstory is told by Deadpool in flashbacks, causing the film to jump around in time a lot. Deadpool may not be the crowning achievement of comic book movies, but it's entertaining enough to watch in the theater. I'm sure it'll be the perfect movie at 12 year old boys slumber parties after their parents have gone to sleep. 7/10 |

review thing here, TL;DR v Quote:
VHS New favorite found footage film. Jesus this was beautiful, it'd be perfect to own on vhs. |
You're not kidding. That was a pleasant surprise. 8/10 from me too. Liked it a lot better than the last two anthologies I've seen, Tales of Halloween and A Christmas Horror Story.

Human Centipede (First Sequence)
7/10 I actually really like this movie. The main surgeon guy is great, the gore is decent, the cinematography isn't bad at all, and although some of the acting (especially from the two main girls) is a bit iffy to start with, they do seem to come into their own much more as the film goes on, and by the time they had actually made the 'centipede' I found them very believable. They also chucked in a little bit of humor, mostly during the first 1/3, which worked for me, and all in all the 4.5 this got on IMBD was quite harsh IMO. |
ROSHIQ!!! Welcome back!

![]() I fucking love this film. It's the third time I've watched it. It's mental. Teens party in an abandoned insane asylum that was for young adults. They have massive amount of drugs and liquor. They decide to play with the occult and things go awry. One of them gets possessed by a demon of the mental asylum. The others try an exorcism by an internet app that comes along with pictures. You can find it on NetFlix. Very cool gory, bloody images as she searches through her mind. ROSHIQ!, I have misseth thou! ::love:: |

FROM ROMERO TO ROME (2012). Pretty good little doc about zombie films from NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD through the gory 80's offerings up to the present. Certainly worth watching. ***

The Witch (2016) This film is marketed all wrong. Whatever the poster conveys, whatever the trailers describe, that's not it. There are no jump scares, little action, and overall, not much witchery. The dialog is nearly uninterpretable, being lifted from 16th century court records, and much of the film trudges at a Kubrickian crawl. Most of the horror comes in the form of family loss and paranoia. If you expect something different, as I assume most would, you'll likely be disappointed. I went opening night with a bunch of dudes, expecting The Conjuring in the forest, and everyone including myself was underwhelmed. However. After pondering the film for a couple days, I'm finding myself wanting to experience the whole thing again -- the atmosphere, the dialect, the Shining-esque score, and those few chilling images, which seemed too sparse at the time. But perhaps the lingering effect they've had on me prove that this film really is one to be reckoned with. Last Thursday: 7.5/10 Tonight: 9/10 |
I'm expecting more Goodnight Mommy and The Babadook than The Conjuring. I'm seeing it next Sunday.

I saw it last night. Babadook is the best type of film to describe. I'm aiming to see it again Tues with a buddy.

7/10 doesn't sound too bad. I've really been wanting to see this, expectations are high on my part. Just finished Cursed-2005. 3/10. I tried to like it!!! I wanted to. ::sad:: |

Just checked out the remake of Martyrs.
Not a good movie. There are a couple of good looking shots and the main actress Bailey Noble was pretty decent but other than that it was a completely unnecessary and pointless remake. It entirely misses the point of the violence in the original. They try to switch things up a little but I think they failed miserably. Has anyone else seen it? Does anybody like it? |

Also watched 'The Forest' last night, very weak horror movie imo. It had it's moments but overall I didn't like it, the ending was terrible.

Deadpool.
I liked it. Was a bit of fun. Nothing amazing. I was a little disappointed that his healing factor was never put all that much to the test and that the depths of just how broken and mentally fractured an individual he is wasn't really present - there was a lot of darkness they could have touched on, but didn't. They got his cartoon side down though...just felt like a lot of history was ignored to make a more accessible movie - that, they did well though. Blind Al was...not really Blind Al and an integral part of their original relationship dynamic was completely void...but anyways. Some good action scenes. Reynolds does clearly love the character. I've nothing really bad to say about it at all, and feel a bit spoiled as someone who's read the character since way back when he was a "villain" in the new mutants and x-titles, then his glorious mid 90's series...maybe that's just it... I will say this though, really, if you like the movie - try to get a hold of a collected edition of the 90's series, and the follow up Cable & Deadpool. I'd give the film, biased though I may be, a 7. |
EX MACHINA (2015). A little slow, but be patient and not bad at all. Found elements of THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME, BLADE RUNNER and 2001:A SPACE ODDYSSEY. ***

House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects.
House of 1000 Corpses was... okay. The characters were annoying and unsympathetic as usual and I think it's Rob Zombie's talent to create obnoxious characters. And the end was a joke, right? I really hope so. Otherwise it's the most stupid ending I've ever seen. Wow, just... wow. Because of that I thought that The Devil's Rejects would be as bad or even worse. But it was much better. The only thing I didn't like about it was the ending but just because my favourite character has been killed, so... I have the feeling that Rob Zombie wanted to create something like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - just with more blood, with crazier characters, with more insults. And that's totally fine. While he failed with House of 1000 Corpses in my opinion he created a quite enjoyable movie with The Devil's Rejects. I liked to see Bill Moseley to take over a role that's totally weird and crazy again (although I didn't like the character of Otis) and Captain Spaulding has to be my favourite out of both movies together with Tiny (which isn't very hard since most of them irritated the hell out of me). What also wasn't very good was the acting of Sheri Moon Zombie. She just didn't impress me. |
Southbound (2015)
Crap. Just a bunch of average stories tied together in a cheap way. The Good Dinosaur (2015) Didn't hate it. Don Verdean (2015) Meh... It's like a comedy without jokes. There should be a name for this genre. |
