Comanche Creek, Colorado, 1875: Prisoner Jack Mason is broken out of jail by a gang of strangers. They use him in a robbery, then when the dead-or-alive reward is high enough, they shoot him and collect. The National Detective Agency, now knowing the gang's methods, arranges to have agent Bob Gifford jailed in Comanche Creek for train robbery. The gang takes the bait (not before Gifford catches the eye of lovely saloon-keeper Abbie) and Gifford goes undercover to try and stop the bad guys.

Phantom's Review: Decent "B" western with some good action and an interesting story. Best part of the movie: Deforest Kelley (of "Star Trek" fame) as a ruthless cold hearted S.O.B. Makes you totally forget kind "Dr. McCoy"
Annoying part of the film: A narrator. It's almost like the film was written as a radio show and then switched to the movies. Completely unneeded.

No, I haven't had time to catch up on all the thread, but here's a few quick offerings.

THE WILD BUNCH. There can only be one. And this may be my favorite. Simultaneously about blood, vengeance, loyalty, fraternal love, respect and violence for the sake of violence, this is a stone cold classic, towering above others in the field.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY. Huge and epic but with the smallest of human motives at its heart, there's humor and grimness aplenty to be found.

THE ROAD WARRIOR. Go ahead, prove to me that it isn't a western in anything but setting. Total western, as good as they come.

Coen Brothers' Next is True Grit

Joel and Ethan Coen will next put their spin on True Grit, the iconic Western that won John Wayne an Oscar.

The Paramount film will be more faithful to the Charles Portis book than the 1969 pic, also distributed by Paramount.

Portis' novel is about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father's killer in hostile Indian territory.

But while the original film was a showcase for Wayne, the Coens' version will tell the tale from the girl's point of view.

The project reteams the brothers with Scott Rudin, their partner on the Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men. The Coens wrote the screenplay.

The original starred Kim Darby as the teen, Wayne and Glen Campbell as the lawmen, Jeff Corey as the killer and featured Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper as fellow outlaws.

DJANGO!!!!! This movie must be seen to be believed. Made in 1966 it's bloodier by far than anything Hammer Studios was putting out at the time.
The setting is a stunning mud covered apocalyptic ghost town. The main character stomps around dragging a coffin like an extra from Un Chien Andalou.
The bad guys ride around in bizaar bright red hoods and scarves (why? who cares, they look wild against the stark backgrounds). The deep focus photography is stunning. I would love to own some stills from this flick.
The dialogue and dubbing are absolutely terrible.....but it doesn't matter. It's
all about surreal imagery and violence (mud and blood). This movie has to be Quinton Tarrantino's wet dream. A Must See for any Horror Fan.
The Blue Underground Disc is terrific. Highly recommended.

"Where The Hell's That Gold ??!!??"

Apache Indians, Wells Fargo agents, and Federal troops trail them. When they are captured by the Mexican authorities, they scheme to keep their ill-gotten riches with the help of a sassy madam and her prostitutes...

Phantoms Review: Well acted, but dull. Great chemistry between Nelson and Elam and Delta Burke as the Madame is fine, but the movie just doesn't have what it takes to be a really entertaining film.

just watched The Big Silence aka The Great Silence (1968):
a classic spaggeti western from Sergio Corbucci......my take is, Corbucci is to Leone as Fulci is to Argento. Everything is a bit sloppier and more extreme. The atmosphere and mood is everything here. Grim and cold are the impressions this flick leaves you with. If Django is blood in the mud....this gem of movie is blood in the snow. Klaus Kinski is terrific as the sadistic bad guy.
Definitely a movie worth checking out!!!

Django Kill (If You Live Shoot!) 1967 ...spagetti western just too fucking weird for words.......certainly bloody, certainly homoerotic, and certainly insane. I'll give it 3 stars (out of five) for jaw dropping nerve.
