I was wondering if it is really THAT good? Is it really worth the hype?

I didnt really love Excorcist or the Shining..didnt care much for Jason's movies either (except for part 3).

Do you think I'll love this one? Does it have a story behind it?

I don't think you'll LOVE it.

Halloween is famous for being the movie that started the whole Slasher genre. But since then, many Slasher movies has been made and many has topped it.

If you've already seen a lot of slashers i'm sure you'll find Halloween to be very ol' school.

Funny... I thought Black Christmas was the movie that 'invented' the slasher genre. Oh well, another case of Americans taking credit for something Canadian. Bullies!

If you look around this forum, or poll the horror community in general... Halloween will come out near the top on nearly everyone's TOP 10 LISTS. I honestly don't think I've heard anything bad said about this film on these forums. Also, Mike Meyers tops most FAVOURITE HORROR ICON lists; and John Carpenter's work is rarely ever looked down upon.

Now, with those facts, think about it.

PS. If you don't like Halloween, it's best to just to pretend you do. It's easier that way. Trust me.

But I do prefer Black Christmas to Halloween.

(( OH, and will someone explain why they love Halloween so much? Someone who'd rate it on their top 10. It's never been described why everyone thinks it's so amazing. I personally think it's a fit-in sort of thing. ))

Ok I just got done watching it!

First I have to say Michael Myers' stalking (and the pov camera) were great.

The soundtrack I think just MAKES the movie. It is just really creepy.. I think it's probably the BEST score of any horror movie I have seen.

Now onto the movie. It builds lots of suspense and keeps you on your toes throughout the whole movie.

It's also probably the film that started it all and most people on this forum probably watched it as kids so it has a special place in their hearts and I completely understand that.

The plot is fairly simple and effective but the movie (for a supposed top horror movie of all time) was still lacking something.

I would give the movie 7/10 but then again I have no taste I guess.:D

You did good, Scream. You appreciated an older film and that's fantastic. Now, for a real treat, go back and watch a good handful of even older films, oh, maybe Frankenstein from 1931, King Kong from 1933, The Wolf Man from 1941, The Blob from 1958, Night of the Living Dead from 1968. Each one will give you a different kind of thrill.

Having "grown up" through the 80's, seeing this one as somewhat of a step out of what I was used to when I saw it at the age of about 14 in around '95.
At this age, it was hard to look past the "aging" factor but when I sat back and actually got into it, found it was pretty decent after all.
I didn't think it was the greatest film ever or anything, but it was a pretty solid, and atmospheric thriller/slasher, the formless face, the music, all worked well. It's not one of my favourites, but I think it's probably one of the films a person trying to dip into horror might definately want to observe at least once.

As for older than that titles to see, I always really liked the earlier version of "house of wax", maybe psycho if you haven't seen it....?

Psycho was a great movie! Check it out.
