the origional war of the worlds is a shit film.

the novel takes place in turn of the century england ...
the movie makes it contemporary USA and throws in a religeous theme to boot.

the worse film adaptation of a really good book ever as far as i'm concerned.

it's beyond me why this film is considered to be a classic

I know we've had this discussion before but, if you can ignore the sledgehammer subtlety of the religious theme, its still a good film in its own right. However, my views have altered since reading the book and I can appreciate your points much more.
My folks have the vinyl of Jeff Waynes musical, must be a collectors item.

- my bloody valentine

plus some HD DVD movies

Elvis_Christ 05-25-2009 02:42 AM

I'm keen to pick up some ST myself after enjoying the new flick so much.

I'm gonna start with the Kirk stuff and move on from there. I've been tempted by that Killing Joke DVD myself. Keen to hear if its good. I'm only familar witht he first album and figured it'd be a good introduction to their later stuff.

I didn't think the new MBV was as shit hot as people made it out to be. The new editon of the original flick however is epic.

urgeok2 05-25-2009 07:06 AM

i always really enjoyed Next Generation - more than any of the other Star Trek series - but i couldnt justify the crazy prices for the box sets.

i have S1,2 and 3 because they were my father in laws and they were given to me after he passed.
then on the weekend we went into a Costco (this wholesale outlet place they have in canada) and they were selling 4,5,6,7 for $29 each - which is crazy low compared to whet i've seen them sell for.

I still want to get the origional ST series though .. I want to watch it with my kid so he gets a better idea of who he got his picture taken with a few years ago.

havent seen the Killing Joke DVD yet - but they were always a band i enjoyed .. i have a few of the old early vinyls by them

my bloody valentine was ok ... not great - but fun - as far as slashers go.

Christ Rosh, those are some incredible sets! You have no idea how jealous I am right now, haha.

I came on here thinking I got a pretty solid haul tonight, but damn - now I hardly even want to post...

- Frost/Nixon (2008)
- Frost/Nixon: The Complete Televised Interviews (2-Disc)
- Psycho II/Psycho III/Psycho IV Triple Feature
- CSI: Grave Danger

I'm no huge CSI fan, but I had to pick it up - it's the only Tarantino work (I'm not counting his producing credits) that I didn't have.

Grabbed a couple CD's too:

- These Streets - Paulo Nutini
- More Best Of... - Leonard Cohen

Some decent Hammer horrors in that selection, was it one of the best of volumes?

I found out through Zwoti Legend of the 7 golden vampires was on sale cheaply here and literally rushed out to get it! Great film!

urgeok2 05-28-2009 06:44 AM

I think a 'best of' volume may have been instrumental for having those titles being passed onto myself :)

me too but this is not a "rare moment" for me...I often get jealous of you all..:o. And besides 'inspiration/dream to buy one day' this thread regularly makes me sad & frustrated! Cause it's not very easy for me to frequently buy DVD online which so far I know nobody often do it here in BD.

I've got a handful of Hammer titles. Never really been my thing, but I'm gonna sit down one weekend and give 'em another day in court. What are some of the better titles? They took a bit more of a exploitation spin during the lter years didn't they? Perhaps they'll be the ones for me :)
