Back to the Future

I've changed my mind three times just while typing out the title though...

_____V_____ 03-06-2007 09:23 PM

geez Des...I admit Back to the Future was one hell of a movie...but its like Blade Runner taking on the Godfather...how can you go against the big 'un?

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
This time.
Any time.
Any match.

The defining milestone of cinematography, direction and of course, Eastwood.

I loved The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and it was incredible but I can't just pop it in and watch it like I can Back to the Future. I can watch Back to the Future in almost any mood I'm in no matter what I'm doing with anybody and that's why it won out in the end. I feel that both movies achieved their goals with tremendous success.

I agree with you there, but when it comes to comparing both of em about which is the better movie, you ll have to admit that BTTF is nowhere near TG,TB & TU, especially in a one-on-one.

Well, I voted BttF because I thought it was the more consistantly entertaining of the two not because I was comparing the technical aspects of the films. Which is more important? Anyway, like I said I loved both and yesterday, or tomorrow, I may have voted TG, TG, & TU but today I stand strong heh. I may have watch TG, TB, & TU again this week (I told myself I wouldn't watch it again until I bought the wood box set but now I don't know if I'll get that...).

I've seen it enough. ;)

Nope, can't find a pic right now but I'll try later. We almost need an All-around film tourney DISCUSSION (note I didn't say argument) thread.

Damn, this is a toughie. If it was B2tF part 2, I'd be more inclined to give it my vote, but I'll go with Good, the Bad & the Ugly.

Round 2: Match 7

Saving Private Ryan
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

VS

Platoon
http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

zomg, war movie vs. war movie!

Despare 03-06-2007 11:55 PM

Platoon .

bwind22 03-07-2007 12:11 AM

I'll have to go with SPR here. Is Full Metal Jacket in this tourney? Or Apocalypse Now? Those would probably have to be my 2 favorite war films.

Despare 03-07-2007 12:22 AM

There's an Asian war movie called "Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo" or "Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War" which is probably my favorite war movie within 10 years and certainly in the top 4 war movies of mine. If only it could have made it into the tourney (even I forgot about it heh).

roshiq 03-07-2007 12:36 AM

Saving private Ryan

The STE 03-07-2007 12:41 AM

we're into round 2, so if you haven't seen it, it isn't in the tournament

_____V_____ 03-07-2007 12:56 AM

Platoon.

Saving Private Ryan had one or two cool war scenes (like the one on the beach), the rest was basically a drama. It tried to touch the emotional content, but Spielberg concentrated more on war, and less on emotions. (Except the one really unnerving scene where the German soldier keeps saying "Shhh" as he drives the knife deeper into the Allied soldier...)

But Platoon...the Stone touch, the raw, edgy gritty approach to the NAM, Willem Dafoe(Elias) and Tom Berenger(Barnes)'s brilliance, excellent pace and awesome cinematography, the visuals...once they etch into your memory, you can never forget the experience...ever.
