And I'm in total agreement, it is one of the best rap albums from the 90's. It's just so... different. I can't even think of adjectives that would do it justice. Plus you have to love Kool Keith! He's bat shit crazy, he's pretty much told every record company and executive to go fuck themselves, and his lyrics and rhyming are so original.

Yeah, Kool Keith is a nut. The lyrics on Dr. Octagonecologyst are amazing. His style reminds me a little of MF Doom. Dan the Automator did the production on that record, and his work is always excellent, too.

Love that Zappa song, too. One of the first tunes of his I remember hearing.

Mine too. Overnite Sensation is probably the best album to recommend to someone who never heard Zappa. It's strange, yet there's a normalcy to it that a lot of Frank's other albums don't have. It won't scare them off.

Listening to The Vitamin String Quartet:

There's something about classical strings being used in a song. They give a certain gravitas to music. I guess it has to do with the resonance of the notes, but I could give a crap about the technical aspect of it, it sounds sweet! And they do a great version of Bold as Love. When they go into the outro of this song (about 3 minutes in) it kind of sends shivers up my spine.

I wouldn't recommend all of their stuff. A lot of it sounds like lame irish sea shantys. And some songs that they attempt to cover, the interpretations just aren't that good. But if you dig cover versions (which I totally do), they're worth checking out.

I know this song has flowery, uber-hippie lyrics. But it's just very sinister sounding! Even the Butthole Surfers version doesn't sound half as sinister as the original.

Talked myself into listening to some Buttholes.

Sounds like music that Depeche Mode would put out if they were hardcore ether addicts.

Ahhh... A beautiful Saturday afternoon! What better way to spend it than listening to a couple of my fave guitar tunes, and arguing with an ex-girlfriend through email. Well... at least listening to music is kind of fun

My favorite version of this song. Which is impressive since there are practically thousands of versions of this tune.
