G n R new one....its pretty good

James Whale 06-26-2008 01:44 PM

The Doors, Strange Days.

I'm just getting over THE SIGNAL and all the nihilism in it; so, what do I do? I turn to the uplifting mood of THE DOORS! Help! It's time for some ABBA or something.

you know ego was the inspiration for "what what" (in the butt)?

Manson only has one song that I really like, and if you've heard all of his songs you can guess what it is.

I love most of them. Some of them are just ok, but Abbey Road is easily the top. The 1 album is pretty good though.

Elvis_Christ 08-04-2008 10:16 PM

I really dig The John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album with Mother and Working Class Hero on it.

Also good. Beatles are just... The Beatles. Nuff said.

James Whale 08-05-2008 08:51 AM

Beatles

It's great to hear people still see THE BEATLES as relevant; they are the template for everything that is cool in rock and roll.

That's got some goodies on it. I've always dug Tomorrow Never Knows and Taxman off that one. Its just a case of overplaying a lot of the older classic bands and kinda killing it for myself.

Never heard Sparks before... ABBA have always creeped me out :)

Sparks are a power pop band from LA that transplanted to the UK.

I dont know how to describe them ... i dont think most people would get them but i think they have the best lyrics of any other band ... really odd and goofy .. alien almost.

worth checking out just to satisfy your curiosity ..

do a search for the song : This Town Aint Big Enough For the Both of Us,

or anything else off of the album : Kimono My House

the music always compliments the lyrics ... something most bands dont even bother with.

here's the lyrics for Amateur Hour - off of the same album...

Lawns grow plush in the hinterlands
It's the perfect little setting for the one night stands
Now the drapes are drawn and the lights are out
It's the time to put in practice what you've dreamed about

She can show you what you must do
To be more like people better than you

Chorus:
Amateur Hour goes on and on
When you turn pro you know - she'll let you know
Amateur Hour goes on and on
When you turn pro you know
She tells you so

Girls grow tops to go topless in
While we sit and count the hairs that blossom from our chins
Our voices change at a rapid pace
I could start a song a tenor and then end as bass

Choose your partners everyone
If you hesitate, the good ones are gone

(Chorus)

Dance, laugh, wine, dine, talk and sing
But those cannot replace what is the real thing
It's a lot like playing the violin
You cannot start off to be Yehudi Menuhin

(Chorus)

oh .. and as far as ABBA goes .. i have no excuses - i'm an unashamed fan :)

yeah - he's a weird guy ... paper thin with a hitler mustache and a 1940's hairstyle..

Ron and Russel Mael (singer) are brothers. they have about 20 albums out over the years and recently put on a huge series of concerts in the UK where they performed each album - 1 per concert ... verbatim.

It'd be quite a interesting show for sure. I'd rather see eccentric bands like them than a lot of the revived rock bands from the era.

@ Mothman:

Fuck yeh... Negative Approach are one of my favorites.

How's Alice Cooper's new album?

Jacob Singer 08-26-2008 03:50 PM

I realy like it. It sounds like "Welcome to my nightmare" but with a modern production. The only thing that does not work for me is the single (Vengeance is mine) 'cause it's too close to things like poison.

Geddy 08-28-2008 08:28 AM

Sounds cool, I'll check it out.

CrimsonFiend138 08-30-2008 10:04 PM

Yeah I like Coheed.

Been Listening to: Tool-Undertow(Awesome) Lateralus(Awesome) 10,000 Days(pretty good)

Pearl Jam Greatest hits I think..AMAZING BAND

Afi:Shut your Mouth and open your eyes.

Heart Greatest Hits. I never gave heart a listen but Wow I really like them.

Geddy 08-31-2008 04:06 PM

Bob Dylan - Desire.
Midnight Cowboy Soundtrack.
George Harrison - Dark Horse.

newb 09-04-2008 08:56 AM

Metallica's new one--Death Magnetic

Rick Rubin is like the Dr. Frankenstein of the music industry. He keeps reviving all these seemingly dead bands and creating brilliant albums.

Good stuff from the boys..... makes me almost forget St. Anger
