Just finished watching Constantine, not bad but i felt like i was spending the entire film waiting for it to really start

6.5/10

noctuary 10-20-2005 06:57 PM

I watched Dr. Strangelove yet again today. Sellers, Scott, Pickens... magnificent. It's truly amazing that a film that's nearing forty-five years old can still be so timely and accurate today. Brilliant, brilliant film, a true classic. If you haven't seen it yet, put down whatever you're doing and watch now!

100/10

I loved that movie Noc, I have the set with the photo book and the nice slipcase. A really great addition to my collection and a BRILLIANT film. If anybody needs a second nod before they pick it up here it is. *NOD*

Shaolin Soccer

After seeing Kung Fu Hustle, I had to check this one out. I wasn't disappointed either. Like KFH, it was fresh, stylish and funny. I think the best way to sum it up might be to call it a kung fu movie meets the Bad News Bears. All in all, I enjoyed it, but be warned... It's subtitled so if that's not for you, this probably isn't either. Very entertaining.

Kicking and Screaming

It's hard for me to figure out why some of Will Ferrell's movies are great and others just aren't. (Bewitched comes to mind) Like everything I've ever seen him in, Ferrell is way funny in this, but the problem was that he was the only bright spot. RObert Duvall is pitifully miscast and the script sucked. Will's funny, but apparently he can't carry a movie with no supporting help for an hour and a half. I was a bit disappointed in this one... Mike Ditka would have made a better father character than Duvall did, but that's just my opinion...

Let me first say that I love gore and plot while a good plus isn't always a required piece of the puzzle for me to enjoy a movie. Also, I love zombies, I love copycats and homages and anything walking dead pretty much. That being said, I just saw Undead with high hopes and holy crap. 3.5/10 because there were a few decent spots but DAMN did that movie suck hard. Thank God for netflix or it'd be on my shelf right now.

jenna26 10-22-2005 07:07 PM

Last House on the Left: first time I had ever seen it. It's brutal but not as exploitative as I thought it would be. Disturbing film.

Land of the Dead: you know what? I didn't hate it. I thought it was fun, though not nearly as good as the previous films obviously.

Creepshow

Great movies.

Hellraiser4-my husband swears up and down we saw this. After every gory scene he asked 'you don't remember THIS'??....uhhh-no..I don't..I vaguely remember parts...maybe we were making out or something, cause I know half the movies I've seen,I don't remember for that very reason.
Now that I offically have...it's ok -5 out of 10.

Hellraiser5-okaaay, so we're going all psychological thriller now-eh?
whatever.

Hellraiser 7-netflix sent this one out of order....but still my reaction to this movie is: HUH?

Maerlyn 10-23-2005 01:35 PM

I have just watched "The Cell" . It is a fascinating movie :) , why didn't i watch it earlier

noctuary 10-23-2005 02:06 PM

A History of Violence. Yeah, I broke down and drove to the nearest city to watch it. Good film. Cronenberg seems to be moving far from his typical subject matter in his newest films, but I suppose there's only so much you can do with body horror. I think I should have watched the movie before reading the comic, as I was a little disappointed at what was left out. Although if they had filmed a lot of scenes from the comic, the movie would have certainly got an NC-17 rating. Overall: 7/10

Saw Doom last night. It didn't really deal too much with the story, but it was pretty fuckin' awesome to watch.

gorefreak 10-24-2005 08:50 PM

Darkness.... unfortuneately. Not enough happens in the movie and the storyline is dragged out too much.

bwind22 10-25-2005 01:31 AM

Land of the Dead (again)

I really didn't notice any differences between the unrated directors cut and the theatrical version and since I was a bit diappointed in it the first time I saw it, nothing has changed. The gore is cool, but it fails to live up to the standards Romero set for himself with Night, Dawn and Day.

B+

On deck: House of Wax (remake), Mystery Science Theatre: Manos The Hands of Fate, and Haute Tension

gorefreak 10-25-2005 05:41 AM

Yeah, I'm really dissappointed that "unrated" might mean 2 extra minutes of a lame scene, not like 5 extra minutes where maybe 20 seconds for each nasty scene is headpounding gore. Now it seems to be nothing more than a lousy marketing ploy. :(

I missed that "Zombie Flesh Eaters" one. Fulchi's "Zombie". lol@that. That movie must have like 5 or 6 different names. The only thing I don't understand, why would someone call it "Zombie 2? Always makes me think "well, than what was 'Zombie 1' then?" ;)

newb 10-25-2005 06:00 AM

Watched "Unleashed" aka Danny the Dog, last night. Some great fight scenes but pretty predictable.Biggest gripe

I wanted Jet to kill Bob Hoskins

"Zombie 1" = Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead'

Fulci had so much respect for this movie that he wanted to make his a kind of "second" film. Not really a sequel, but more like he couldn't compare his movie to Romero's.

alkytrio666 10-25-2005 10:41 AM

Anyway, this weekend I saw:

*Wallace and Grommit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit- 5/5...pretty damn good, plus W+G shaped my childhood. :D

*The Fog ('05)- 1.5/5...pretty damn horrible.

bwind22 10-25-2005 07:51 PM

House of Wax (remake)

There was some alright gore and Paris Hilton's poor acting ability didn't even really stand out because 1. she wasn't in it that much and 2. the rest of the cast wasn't that great either. The plot was similar to the original but it has definately been modeernized and given a Hollywood touch. It was right on par with what I expected which was some cheesy entertainment, but nothing spectacular.
