I still haven't checked that one out. Not a big fan of Clive Owen I couldn't stand him in Sin City. But I've heard good things so I'll give it a spin.

I've watched a lot of 70s cult/trash/whatever you wanna call 'em flicks over the last couple of years and I'm easily pleased with cool characters, violence, car chases etc despite minimal plot. Like I said there relaxing, great fun and a lot more escapist.

AmericanManiac 09-15-2008 06:33 PM

Just picked up "The Last Winter"

There's just something more relaxing watching a movie that doesn't take itself to seriously.

Probably why I'm one of the few people that fuckin' loved Hell Ride.

to be completely honest, it probably one of my favorite action movies from the 80's. its a cheese sandwich with great one liners, and completely over the top, just my kind of thing. i love it.

hmmm..If you didn't like Clive in Sin City....you may not like him in Shoot-Em-Up. Personally I loved him in both.

also.....I like Hell Ride as well.....so you are not alone my friend;)

The Mothman 09-16-2008 07:09 AM

so is hellride like a mindless action flick, is that why people dislike it?
honestly, thats just what i want, there just aren't enough these days. modern day action movies are either PG-13 Fast and Furious/XXX type, or just take them selfs too seriously.

urgeok2 09-16-2008 07:37 AM

i havent seen hell ride - but let me say this ..

you can have dumb fun mindless action - done cleverly ..

there's a difference between stupid unimaginative cliches and ones done with some thought to them. i thought Crank was well done mindless action - so was Shoot 'em Up.

its a genre thats been done to death - frankly i got sick of it - so to see some new life breathed into it is refreshing to me ...

we've come too far and thanks to home video - we've become somewhat more sophisticated due to prolongued exposure...

the action film has to be smarter these days.

case in point : The Marine.

acceptable 20 years ago - now it's just a fucking stupid waste of time and an insult to the basest intelligence.

newb 09-16-2008 08:07 AM

I'm afraid Hell Ride would most likely fall into the "stupid unimaginative cliches" category. A real throwback to the "biker" movies...but more blood and boobs.

that's probably why I liked it:D

got something cool today :

my wife wanted a GPS .. so this computer clearance place sent me an email a couple of days ago - the Magellan Maestro 4040 (bluetooth - you can talk to it - it announces streets of your next turn, etc ..

referbished units for $99 ($200 off !)

so i bought one - and with the savings bought an external 1 terebyte harddrive (and a firewire card) man what a beauty !

I'm going to be dabbling with some video editing and needed a clean place to do it with a lot of room...

1 terebyte external ... for $180.

I clearly remember paying way over that for a 20 gig drive less than 10 years ago.

Hot ex-Playmates covered in beeswax. What's not to love?

The_Return 09-22-2008 02:51 PM

- The Big Lebowski (10th Anniversary 2 Disc SE)
- Final Destination "Thrill-ogy"

...and most exciting of all:

- Fox Horror Classics, Vol. 2:
- Chandu the Magician
- Dr. Renault's Secret
- Dragonwyck
I really could care less about Dr. Renault and Chandu - though they both look pretty entertaining - I bought this set entirely because of Dragonwyck. You have no idea how incredibly excited I am to see this movie, hasn't been availible on DVD in North America until like 2 weeks ago.

Supposedly it's one of Price's best performances, so needless to say I can't wait :D :D

I'm huge on that kinda shit. It's a pity we don't get a lot of 'em in the stores over here. It's some classic cinema for sure.

That any good? I have it - came in a set with Race with the Devil and Dirty Mary/Crazy Larry - but I haven't bothered to watch it. Wasn't as impressed with the original as I thought I would be, so I didnt really fast track the remake - should I?
