The Dreamers - 8/10

Cool, kinda weird, very well made

Watching Boogey Nights, it's on the part when that kid keeps lighting fire crackers, that shit is so annoying. I've seen it like 5 times in the last 2 or 3 days because I'm at the mercy of HBO right now.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I had never read the book and didn't know much about this other than that it didn't last too long in the theatres. That being said, it actually turned out to be pretty entertaining. Very original story, grade A acting, and cool sfx, not to mention a very subtley hilarious robot that suffers from depression. All in all, it was really cool looking and I recommend it to people looking for a fun family adventure sort of movie... *shrug* B

The sequel (by the director of Ed Gein & The Hillside Strangler) is very commendable - includes a rather disturbing head-sawing bit.

Yea I enjoyed it. I'm not an anime fanatic, I mostly go for the trendy stuff and this was a good flick. Short, but good. The art in it was really cool too. It's no GITS:Innocence, but it's visually pleasing.

I watched Crimes Of The Black Cat, if you are a fan of the Giallo genre then it's well worth picking this one up. ... or you can win it

Really?

But Combat Shock is quite unlike any other Troma release - it was snapped up by Kaufman after a mid-80's run in grindhouse theatres in a cut version under the title American Nightmare.

It has since been reissued fully uncut by Troma, and is a million miles away from their usual brand of Z-grade acting and cornball special effects.

Grim in the extreme, and highly recommended.

C'mon... I dug the movie but the effects and acting were as bad as (almost) any other Troma movie I've ever seen. "Life's hard Frankie, and because it's hard I feel compelled to take off my jacket." Wow, and then he takes off his jacket... hahaha. I don't know, like I said I liked the movie but this was as bad as a lot of other Troma stuff. (Although the Troma special features were HORRIBLE... holy hell... Cooking With Combat Jacques? Wow...)

Leprechaun 6: Back 2 the Hood

I was shocked and surprised that this movie was actually one of the best in the series. The acting is alright, the character development is miles ahead of any of the other films and they stopped having Lep speak in those annoying rhymes. And the humor is actually funny (Which is a far cry from Leprechaun 4 or Lep in the Hood. The part where Leprechaun smokes weed is great.) The biggest downfall was that the gore was primarily off-screen, but other than that this was one of my favorites in the series. Anyways, I was expecting this to be the worst of the 6 Leprechaun films and it ended up being one of the best (Right there with Leprechaun & Leprechaun 3. C

bwind22 10-07-2005 02:36 AM

I was just looking back a few pages to see what people had been watching lately and I saw 2 films getting bashed that I have to disagree on...

Following - This is the first film from Christopher Nolan (Memento)and it's certainly a strange one, but I don't think it was bad at all. Slow paced? Yeah. Lacking of any physical action? Yeah. But the story and main character are so fucked up it makes this movie really cool to me, despite the low budget and amateur feel of it.

And the other one was...

The Salton Sea - Aside from Tombstone, this is the best acting performance I'e seen out of Val Kilmer. I would have to think he's done some speed in his day to be able to portray a speedfreak so accurately. And the scenes with the drug dealers (2 different scenes with 2 different dealers) are fuckin' crazy! I really, really liked this movie a lot.

Anyways, there's my rebuttals on those two movies...

AUSTIN316426808 10-07-2005 02:44 AM

I have to completely disagree with Memento, imo it's one of the best movies there are done by a so far outstanding director.

Cult Japanese nasty Shogun’s Sadism . Well worth seeking out.

Either you misread or I wasn't clear. I wasn't even really talking about Memento but a different film by that same director (Chris Nolan). I just mentioned Memento so people would know who I was talking about.

Anyways, I agree 100%. Memento is brilliant & original. A+ all the way.

Your post said disagree on..., then following, I took it as you were saying you disagree on the following. I wasn't disagreeing with your statement anyway, just giving my opinion towards whoever you were talking to, who at the moment I thought was bashing Memento.

slasherman 10-07-2005 03:36 AM

.."I know what you did last summer"...many hate this ..I dont....pretty good slasher...Its a shame that they reveal the slasher guy at the end of the movie...then it turns into a action movie....

Oh I see where the confusion came in then. My bad. The movie I was refering to is called Follwing and it's made by Chris Nolan.

ChEEbA 10-07-2005 09:57 AM

Just finished watching Danny the Dog/Unleashed.
Was better that I'd anticipated, some crazy-ass action there, excellent coreography and the score was used to pretty good effect. The storyline was a little far fetched, but a tale told well all the way.
I'd expected something to compare to "leon/the proffesional", but this was completely different...All kindsa cool. You should all check it out.

Perfect Murder, Perfect Town

Made-for-TV movie about the Jonbenet Ramesy case. Very interesting and informative, and overall well acted for a TV movie, but it was way too long. It was OK, nothing more or less.
