The answer is...

PIRANHA

The directorial debut of Joe Dante (who's other little creatures films include Gremlins, Gremlins 2 & Small Soldiers and who directed The Screwfly Solution and Homecoming episodes of Masters of Horror)

Piranha 2: The Spawning was the directorial debut of James Cameron

who wants to go next?

After reading your hints i knew this one..... I guess ill go...

Filmed in Luxemburg, but set in an entirely different european country

Never had a theatrical release in the US, but the director recently had a very successful feature that was.

Main character once played a health nut turned heroin addict.

Features a prop gun that constatnly jammed, incidently increasing the tension in the final film.

Roderick Usher 01-02-2007 10:05 AM

after 10 days I figured I needed to give up the answer.

and yours is...Dog Soldiers!

I should stop down here more often then... :)

And yes, you are correct. Were my answers esoteric enough, and you are just that good?

I'm just that good - and I watched it with commentary - the Luxumborg thing got me, and the Trainspotting reference nailed it:)

I'll give you another one in a few - need to think a bit.

They are british troops (mostly english) up in Scotland. England and Scotland would both be offended by saying a "european country" lol :p

But scotland and england ARE in europe, and saying "Set in scotland" would have been a dead giveaway.

XtRaVa 01-03-2007 09:56 AM

Why didnt you say set in UK then? Trust me, we only like to be known as Europe when we are against USA in like the Ryder Cup or Mosconi. You do realise in England we dont use Euro's? No country in europe likes many other countries in europe, pretty much everyone hates England, and England hates everyone back. It's like saying "it was set in North America" and it was actually set in Canada or something. :p

As for this new one, can we have another clue please? :)

Roderick Usher 01-03-2007 12:39 PM

The Stepfather?

Dont think so. I ll post the next set of clues...

- This movie has many references to other horror movies & characters.

- The opening scene resembles that of the opening of Suspiria.

- Molly Ringwald and Janeane Garofalo were originally short-listed for the leading characters, but they turned it down.

More clues when you ask for em...guess the movie?

That was easy, Forge. You oughta make it tougher.:p

Here we go -

- A famous rock singer can be seen among a group of people that sorround a church in one of the scenes from this movie.

- The director of this movie touts this one as the "second part" of his "trilogy".

- One of the actors of this movie hurt his shoulder badly for reals when trying to escape in an escape scene. He claims that the pain still remains to this day.

More clues when you ask for em...Guess the movie?

The_Return 01-08-2007 05:22 PM

Prince of Darkness

"Rock singer" from clue #1 = Alice Cooper...thats what really clued me in. Never seen the movie, but Im a HUGE Cooper fan. Its pretty high on my Ziplist, I'll be checking it out soon.

Clue #2 - Part 2 of John Carpenter's "Apocalypse" trilogy - between The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness, two of my personal favourites.

_V_ man, this was waay to easy:p

The_Return 01-10-2007 02:06 PM

The_Return 01-11-2007 06:30 PM

- Features an actor who once fronted a One Hit Wonder band from the 80's

- A member here has declared on more than once occasision thats it's the worst film that he's ever seen.

- The director has worked with Brian Yuzna on various films.

_____V_____ 01-11-2007 08:35 PM

Clue 3 obviously refers to Stuart Gordon.

Not sure if Jeffrey Combs was in any band of the 80s...

That crazy frontman? Ya....he's a cop in this movie.

_____V_____ 01-12-2007 09:11 PM

Nice video, and nice song too. I remember hearing this one a couple times on the radio.

It's Boo, most hated by Flayed.:p

The_Return 01-13-2007 06:29 AM

That would be the one:p

Funniest part of that movie is watching that video right after it:D

LOL...it truly defines the word "crap"- tastic.:D

Here we go

- Quite possibly one of the most underrated movies of cinema history.

- Based on a novel published in 1983.

- This movie was offered to a very famous director of the 80s, but he turned it down.

More clues when you ask for em...guess the movie?

The_Return 01-13-2007 10:53 PM

The Keep, perhaps?

_____V_____ 01-14-2007 12:33 AM

nope.

- The director wanted to keep the name of the movie same as the novel, but it was changed despite his opposition.

Roderick Usher 01-14-2007 10:27 AM

Manhunter?
from Thomas Harris' novel Red Dragon

_____V_____ 01-15-2007 08:31 AM

nope.

- The movie is inspired by the murders of a real-life serial killer.

Roderick Usher 01-15-2007 10:36 AM

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer?

_____V_____ 01-15-2007 08:32 PM

nope.

- A real life killer of Florida watched this movie some days before killing 5 college students in the early 90s. He referred to his killing alter-ego as the killer portrayed in this movie.

Roderick Usher 01-17-2007 09:16 AM
