Dracula - 1 A classic, but the film is slow and stodgy. Not really scary.
Frankenstein - 3 Karloff's monster is truly frightening. The Old Dark House - 2 I love the film, but it's not really scary. |

Frankenstein - 3 Havent seen the other |
Dracula- 1 (great movie, which I love, just not anywhere near scary)
Frankenstein- 1 (same as what I said on Dracula) The Old Dark House- Haven't seen (I actually just bought this a few days ago, but have not had the chance to watch it yet) |
Dracula - 1 (seen it 3 times, including recently. Although very interesting, it's so plodding. Script taken directly from a play. That would have been very plodding for a play too.
Frankenstein - 3 (The sets, effects, sounds, look, acting are so effective -- when seen with no distractions, it's completely engrossing into this world, so real, very stark. It really starts to chill you to the bone. It's a masterpiece.) The Old Dark House - (I don't recall this movie. have to check it out.) |
For fans of classic horror, The Old Dark House is a must see. With a cast that includes Karloff, Charles Laughton, Ernest Thesiger, Gloria Stuart, Raymond Massey and Melvyn Douglas, you can't go wrong. Plus it's directed by James Whale!
