A Quiet Place Part II (2020)

No surprises in this one. Everything went exactly as I figured. I like the premise of having to be quiet or else you are ripped apart so part of me was still entertained but it's nothing I feel like I would ever watch again.

The Jonestown Massacre: Paradise Lost - A documentary on Jonestown with a mixture of interviews and actors recreating the last few days.

Scary stuff.

Nothing remarkable, nothing out of the box, but decent atmosphere.

Really wanted to enjoy this. Liked the way it was filmed, decent cast, but somehow the story did not click at all for me. It was a combination of Stranger Things with IT with Goonies with American Horror Story and Friday the 13. A kebab with everything in it.

Lacking cohesion? Some Goonies... was it trying to be funny and so just didn't seem real enough?

To be fair, the whole evil story was poor, imho.
They didn't have a solid "evil".

Took me a while to see this, don't know why I avoided it for so many years.
Stupid from my part, a gem, one of the best horrors of the decade.

I liked it too. Created with dedication. I didn't love it as much as you. I'd like to see it again. I don't think I saw it under the best conditions.

The Borderlands

The first thing that struck me about this movie was how much we are now used to things like exposition. Some people, myself included, like to be smartalicky about it, going: oh look, exposition, hihi. But it has become a bit of a crutch for the viewer. So you notice that you need more time to get into the story when you don't have that at your disposal.

The story itself takes its time to build up but I have to say that it does that well. With the sounds at first and then the dog, not to mention the priest committing suicide.

But it's in the last 15 to 20 minutes where this film really delivers and makes it scary and eerie. And while the makers do a very good job with the budget they have, part of me would wish for a master of body horror to jump in and give them that little something extra. Or would you then run the risk of making it cartoony?

The first one surprised me. I'm still looking forward to seeing Part 2 seeing as how the first one ended. The series does depend on the sequel for me. If it's crap then it doesn't matter how good the first one is.

It Follows is the real deal. I tell anyone I can to see this one. It should have made far more in theaters. I believe it was going to be a direct to video originally.
