You know the premise of the film{s} so I don't think I spoiled alittle bit of nothing.

To those who only post some picture of the movie they watched, how about posting it here:

http://www.horror.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30954

If you're gonna leave us guessing at least post in the right topic.
OR you could just mention the freakin' title!

(it's not 80s but it's not exactly contemporary?)

They usually give away too much. I like to be totally suprised when I'm going to watch a movie.

CAPTAIN AMERICA:THE FIRST AVENGER (2011). Read Cap a lot in the 70's and thought this was OK, but nothing more than that. **1/2

Saw the new Poltergeist yesterday. Wasn't thrilled by it. It was just OK for me. I could have waited for Netflix to have it.

If you're stingy about remakes, stop reading now and stay far away from this movie.

Okay now that the basics are gone, this was actually a good movie. Good. Not great. It's obviously more inspired by the likes of Insidious than the original Poltergeist, which does make this significantly different than the original. It's certainly not a shot-for-shot remake. The first act is really busy with a lot of scares popping out at you like a haunted house at a carnival, but some of them are very well constructed. After calling the paranormal investigators, it does become significantly more tame. It's never boring, but the scares die down after the 30 minute mark. The scares also get a little more intelligent. There's one scene in particular involving a drill that could rival anything from the original movie. It's a very scary and clever scene that is certainly the most memorable part of the movie. The performances from a majority of the cast are very good, especially Sam Rockwell. What surprised me most was the last 15 minutes. It went a direction I certainly didn't expect, and it ended the movie very well. The biggest problem with this movie is that it is underwhelming for the most part, and the short running time doesn't allow the viewer to really connect to the family. Poltergeist is still a satisfying and worthy remake of the classic; just don't expect to lose any sleep over it.

After this lukewarm review and hammerfan also throwing cold water on it I'm waiting for the DVD.

Tomorrowland (2015)

What are you doing, Disney? This had a good trailer and a great premise, and we're given practically nothing that was promised to us. Tomorrowland is focused on a teenage girl who receives a mysterious pin that, when touched, will bring her to a futuristic utopia where nothing is impossible. It would have been nice if the movie was ACTUALLY about that. Instead, the girl, Casey, is only there for about the last 10 minutes of the film. What this movie is really about is saving the world from the apocalypse which is caused by, and I'm not joking, pessimism. Just from that, you can tell this is gonna be one preachy movie. I do wanna say that the acting is top-notch, the special effects are beautiful, and it is an overall entertaining movie. The message of optimism is a great one, but after about 20 minutes, it becomes aggravating how much the movie has to hammer that theme in. That's really Tomorrowland's biggest problem: the movie is more concerned with telling us to "just be optimistic" as opposed to telling a cohesive and intelligent story. Many plot points are introduced and completely forgotten by the next scene, and there are many instances where the story will just rush past a potentially important event just so that the characters can tell us even more about optimism and the future of the world. I really don't understand why the trailers seemed like they were trying to hide some big plot element. What they were actually hiding from us was that this movie isn't very good.

Exactly.

If you bother to search google for a movie pic, why the hell not do us all a favor and post the freakin cover? Jesus..

At least DeadBeatAtDawn has the decency to write down the title. Otherwise... what's the point?

Frankenstein's Army

"A man of vision, is always misunderstood."
There aren't really any good guys to root for, as everyone's a bit of an asshole. And it feels like you're playing a video game like 90% of the movie with the cameraman POV. The creatures Frankenstein makes, and Frankenstein himself make the movie though. He's quite humorous with how lax he is about human life and what he does with it. Story was fine, characters were dicks, what else... The build up was good. A bit misleading but good. They come across a human skeleton with a wolf skull where the head should be. As if Frankenstein is taking up Dr. Moreau's profession or something. But his creations (the ones still alive) are half man and half machine (which certainly didn't remind me of Hellraiser III). Perhaps the animal hybrid was a prototype? Either way it was entertaining. I really liked drill face. 8)
