Getting down to the wire with these...

Ash (Alien, 1979)

Between Ash and Hal, I'm voting Ash. Both Hal & Ash are sentient & seem to 'malfuction', debatable for both. To me Hal is straight human, high intel with immaturity & pride. Ash's personality is more complex, & yet also, strangely enough, is more computer-like in obeying his programming, and expresses his inability to possess compassion, keeping the key essence of being non-human (or robot/android/cyborg/AI), where Hal goes human in being afraid to die.
