The Mothman 05-01-2013 01:42 PM

Finally got around to seeing the japanese school girl zombie flick Stacy
Heres a review

cheebacheeba 05-01-2013 09:39 PM

"Warm Bodies".
I liked it...I mean look it's a zom/rom/com and it's no "Shaun" but, it's still definitely worth a watch.
Quite depressing in parts, ridiculous in others, bit of schmucky romance thrown in too...but it comes together nicely.
Great and rather interesting eclectic soundtrack going on as well.

For those that don't know, the book it was based on was meant to be a spin on Romeo and Juliette.
While I can see the similarities it stands on its own just fine.

I enjoyed it. I'd give it a 7.

Maniac....got half way through then I started to get bored. Probably watch the rest when I'm more energetic.

Which version? I watched the 1980 version this week. I did the same thing as you -- it got a bit slow in the middle and I was having trouble staying awake so I stopped and watched the rest the next day. I ended up liking it; the ending is great. But due to some less than perfect pacing in the middle, and I'm not sure his romantic interest was all that compelling, I give it 7/10.

roshiq 05-03-2013 11:37 AM

I have seen the original Maniac only once before; so after watching this Elijah Wood featuring 2012 version I just instantly decided to revisit the original to make a 'fair' comparison as I could hardly recall anything about that 1980 cult classic. One thing I was pretty sure that William Lustig's clinical take on Joe Spinell's script didn't actually impressed me first time but that was about 6 to 7 years ago when I was quite newb as a horror movie viewer. Anyway, I think Joe Spinell did his best to portray the titular character considering his caliber as an actor back in the early 80s. For those great special effects from a young Tom Savini the film was quite effective on visual display of violence & gore as it was intended but it may not that good of a horror film in compare to its other particular subgenre of movies. But still 80s Maniac is recommendable for honorable mention as it's little more than just a nasty little Grindhouse flick, IMO.
Now, about the 2012 version: though there are some similarities in plot elements with the original but I think it deserve to be categorized as a re-imagining remake. Partly scripted by Alexander Aja & directed by Franck Khalfoun (P2), there are some fine changes or modifications they made regarding character attributes & plot developments in this new Maniac. And I appreciated that from the beginning to the end. To bring the viewer into the mind of a rampant lunatic, they shot the film almost entirely from the first-person perspective of the title character where Elijah Wood on the role still shines convincingly only through reflections on mirror & glass, dream sequences & photographs as one fractured young man. It was brutal and I liked it and I think some of my favorite HDCian friends here...V, Chrono, Newb, EC, Ferox may also going to like it.

The Dead Want Women (2012) (V)

There first half of the movie is the back story of Lady who seem to being having a party.

I then find out she been rejected and that to kill everyone shoot everyone in that room with a gun.

There was some nudity scenes in first half of hour of the movie not much in the second half of the movie.

The start of movie was based 1920's and Decades after, 2 Girl who planing the selling this house.

Get caught up then those Dead Men from past come back to haunt them,

I thought the make up effect were not too bad, they could have them bit more scary there they were.

The acting not that bad, I was expected very bad acting, it not un- watchable.

The movie was very boring thought, I was again drifting away from time to time, while watching this movie.

3 out of 10

Zombies Vs. Strippers (2012)

This is yet another full moon picture, I still think was tiny improvement on The Dead want women.

They could have this movie at more funny then it was, well did make me laugh one or twice.

The rest of the jokes felt way to force and they lost or the funniest even before the jokes ended

For a zomebie this movie wasn't as gory as I thought it would be and there zombie make up effect didn't look that good at all.

The first of half the movie was very boring as it got to know this people are who were all very annoying.

The acting he want to expect from this movie not good at all but it's not unwatched -able

I am giving giving this movie 2 out of 10 caused it made me laugh twice with two decent jokes.

Greystone Park (2012) also know as The Asylum Tapes (UK title)

I don normal mind these Hand-Held Camera/Documentary Horror, I seat thought a number of them, Yeah some movies are good and some are really bad and boring.

But this movie I found everything to be very annoying from the start first of the movie is too dark, that can't seem to see what the hell is going on.

For few moment I thought I sat on the remote and turn TV off by mistake but I Know i didn't cause these banging noise now and again coming form the TV black screen,

If wasn't the Darkness of movie, it very annoying fizzing pictures that come on way to often in this movie, This movie just came a really bad headache.

The part of the movie you can actually see in the movie is last 2 minutes of the movie, which was only decent part of the movie that may someone Jump if this was their first horror movie and the ending was very predicable and boring.

I don't if the acting was good or bad as I couldn't really tell but scripts were really bad too.

Quote from the movie Anyone who goes into this building ends up going mad!

Which should be change Anyone who see this movie will end up getting a mad headache!

This really should have been better than it was. It had a couple of laugh-out-loud moments but was otherwise MEH.

2/5.

Django Unchained (2012)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psb97868c7.jpg

With such an acclaimed director as Tarantino (whose movies I LOVE), it's really hard to go into a film without comparing it to the rest of his body of work, especially since there are so many common threads lacing between them - Thinking on Django, here you have a vengeance film, as was the Kill Bills, and as was Inglorious Basterds to a certain extent... Then you have more direct comparisons - In Inglorious Basterds, Tarantino is killing Nazis and avenging their victims... Here in Django Unchained, Tarantino is killing slave owners in a pre-Civil War South... So it's hard NOT to compare Django Unchained specifically to Inglorious Basterds.

With that off my chest...

Django Unchained was good. Not the mind-blowing experience that I had with Inglorious Basterds, but it was good. Not surprisingly, Christoph Waltz was really great to watch... Leonardo DiCaprio was fantastic, and Tarantino sufficiently builds tension when necessary.

That being said, I thought the movie was oddly flat - Could be that with Tarantino and the billed cast, I had high expectations - But considering his history, how could you NOT have high expectations... I don't know, I'm ultimately conflicted here as I think back to Tarantino's body of work from Reservoir Dogs to Basterds and this just isn't as impactful as his other pieces, or as impactful as it should have been. I was really disappointed.

Good, but not as great as it should have been.

3/5, I guess, but probably because I am biased and have a hard time giving Tarantino lower than a 3...

Iron Man 3 (2013)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps5d39cba0.jpg

Hmmm - Guy Pierce was a great bad guy and Robert Downey Jr. was fun to watch, though the schtick is getting old.

This was better than the second one, but still pretty forgettable.

2.5/5

Dead Silence 05-05-2013 09:16 AM

The Collection..good film, if you like Saw films..I did think the first one was better though :)

Not a quite fan of the finale of Inglorious. Liked Django a lot more than the Basterds.

IMO: There are only 2 'good' things about this latest take on TCM saga:

1) Hopefully now this will make the 2003 Marcus Nispel directed remake (my very favorite guilty pleasure) & the 2006 prequel version TCM: The Beginning (loved it too) "damn good films! or may be even epic" to those ardent fans of the original who so far hated or didn't like the 03 & 06 versions at all.

2) The young horror-hottie Alexandra Daddario, playing Leatherface's hot cousin:D

Overall, awful plot! Haven't seen the Next Generation (1994) yet; so for me, this is the worst!

Iron Man 3
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8b68da82.jpg

Wow did i ever hate this. The story is rushed and the dialouge is forced. The entire movie doesn't even feel like an Iron Man movie. Tony is barely ever even in the suit. I was okay with them making Tony seem weak and having his problems but the whole anxiety attack thing didnt go anywhere and they didnt just make Tony look weak, they made Iron Man look weak. The suits kept breaking all the time making Iron Man just look disposable. The addiciton metaphor fell flat too. I liked that they gave dialouge and personality to the henchman though, that was a nice touch as was some of the jokes but others fell flat and were ill timed. Speaking of personality Don Cheadle had absolutely none and Robert Downey Jr really didn't seem to be into this movie.

Here was my biggest problem though:

SPOILERS:
They turned Mandarin into a complete joke. Mandarin is Iron Man's biggest Villain and the previews and the setup in the movie makes him seem like an impressive, badass villain and then he turns out to be just another dumb joke. I wouldnt have been as mad at Mandarin turning out to be a front for Killian if they hadnt made Mandarin so damn stupid. Once that happened i didnt give a damn about the rest of the movie. Also the scene at the end was stupid and just another dumb joke. That's all this movie was, a joke. Also i really hated how in a quick scene, they had him getting the shrapnel removed. It made the plot of the second movie pointless.
END OF SPOILERS

The Fugue (2012) It took a while to remember the name of this movie then, I total forgot the name of the movie. (I only saw this less then 48 hours ago!)

This is a very low budget movie, it felt like one those home made you tube videos, yet some of those clips were better filmed then this movie.

This girl is jogging and talks to stranger and then stranger attack her (Meanwhile she is be investigative by someone)

But turn what see is not what we should believe in and they stop the well, this funny silly dark ghost comes of well and pull the man in but then it turns out that not truth at all, cause there was no ghost, only the girl!

I was total confused what the hell was happening in this movie and they as the movie goes its' get even more confusing and no they don't once make is clear!

The acting was very weak and very felt very staged like.

A Waste of time!
1 out 10

The Lost Episode (2012) aka "Pennhurst"

I thought this movie was going to be one of those Hand-Held Camera but however they try to make it out it is like ones of those movies.

I thought the plot was okay, they had decent idea of twist in this movie, even thought twist is very predicable from start of the movie.

Number of people go to this building to film before they go into the building this tall guy tells not to go in and yet he goes in there with them.

Thought out the movie loud noise and people screaming and the mad doctor is stalking this place after all these year!

One by one they all getting killed by this made doctor in this haunted place, torture scenes were really badly done too.

The movie was very boring and wasn't actually stopped watching the movie, while cleaning up and having this on in the back ground for most of time.

The acting in this movie was really bad, it had laughing for most of the times, when the over act the lines

2 out 10

Backslasher (Video 2012)

This as got to be one of worst acting movie I ever seem, I was thinking of turn it the movie of just after 5 minutes in the acting was really bad and then acting just got even worse and makes this movie Very Un-watch-able

As I did't see the full movie I don't think I will even try to watch this movie, as I don't there enough beer in world to seat thought this movie.

horrorfangirl66 05-05-2013 07:17 PM

Shrooms (2007)

This movie had some creepy elements and a decent twist but they weren't enough to save it from the annoying female lead, bad dialogue and the horrible dark to light filter throughout the picture.
2.5/10

John Dies at the End (2012)

I really enjoyed this movie. You felt crazy with them and you laughed about it. It was creative and effective.

NIGHTBREED: THE CABAL CUT

This was a real treat. The story of the studio's butchering of Nightbreed against Clive Barker's wishes is legendary. A member of Barker's production company discovered cut footage a few years ago and using the shooting script, assembled a complete version of the film in secret. After showing his cut to Barker, the director asked for only four small revisions.

Since then, the restoration director has been touring with the new cut at film festivals and horror conventions, to great acclaim. The film is vastly different than the release version, and restores Barker's vision to his adaptation of his novel "Cabal."

Barker wanted to make a film about monsters in their own society, where they were the good guys. The studio wanted... well, the studio wanted a slasher film, so they demanded reshoots expanding Dr. Dekker's role (David Cronenberg's only acting role.), and reducing the monster plot. The Cabal Cut restores the monsters, and cuts out a lot of Dekker.

For now, the only way you can see the true version of Nightbreed is to be lucky enough to see it at a festival or con. I just saw it tonight at Portland's HP Lovecraft Film Festival, and was blown away. This is an amazing film, and if any of you have a chance to see this, by all means do so.

They have distributorship lined up for the US and England, but they don't own the film. They need somebody to buy the film from Morgan Creek, which is not really motivated to sell. One can always hope, though!

About a week ago, watched a zombie movie, Exit Humanity, which takes place just after the Civil War. It was not bad at all, although not as compelling as The Walking Dead. About a few days prior to that, my wife wanted to watch Apparition. Three words come to mind: "Dull, Dull, Dull". My wife didn't care for it either and the ghost movies are usually right in her wheel house.

Rammbock: Berlin Undead (2010)

This is so know siege of the dead (2010) is low budget infected movie from Germany.

I did not expect much from this movie at all but turn out to be surprising good.

Michael as come to see his girlfriend in Berlin but then he finds out that people have infected by this unknown virus. This is only 59 minutes long, just under an hour, this movie was really fast paced and some really good decent tense moment in this movie as well.

The infected were really welled acted and liked the whole foaming thing from mouth and this movie wasn't really gory at all, the bite moment that looked nasty but nothing liked head being torn at all of shot in head.

I really liked the idea of flashes from the camera that was nice turn for the infected movies and there was surprising moment in this movie that I didn't see coming at all,

I really liked that scene. Great acting from the whole but I not sure what of stranger infected hugging Scenes,

I am giving this movie 8 out of 10

Cockneys vs Zombies (2012)

This as to be one of the best zombies movies I have seen in long time, ones of the funniest zombies movie I ever seen.

I really liked how the movie showed how the whole thing started as most of times movies don't normal show you as it started .

I cannot remember the last time I laughed so much in horror movie, I thought this movie was absolutely Hilarious from start to end of the movie,

there were great really funny jokes in this movie that worked really well and don't fall flat at all.

There were very decent gory moments in this movie that some of the gory will be over the top to make look really funny at the same times.

I thought acting was really good from most of the cast, there were some over the top acting scenes of from some people in the movie but that down side of the movie to me.

I loved this movie!

I am giving this movie 9 out of 10

DeadHeads (2011)

This was nice twist on zombie movies, Which I don't think it's be done before but I found the first half the movie very funny at times.

As the movies goes on, I didn't really find some of the jokes that funny at all, I got really bored in the middle of the movie.

I didn't really thing the movie was that gory at all for a zombie movie, there maybe body Parts being pulled there some strange moment were zombie guts were used as a rope

The acting was really good from the whole

6 out of 10

Not quite as bad as Halloween II, but pretty close in my book. I have no doubt like Halloween II it was my first and last viewing. He could have made it into something unique and interesting, especially with the cast he had, but I felt it just fell flat and turned into a snoozefest.
