Let the Fire Burn

Documentary about the City of Philadelphia's attempt to evict member of radical group called MOVE from their house in West Philadelphia. Yes, I grew up in Philly, but I wasn't living here then (1985), I was in the Air Force. I had heard about it, but the documentary goes in-depth. You (well, me, at least) can't feel sympathy for either side. However, the city's attempts to evict turn into a complete cluster-fuck, and lives were lost.

The cover doesn't show, but this is actually a pretty good horror movie.

I've seen it. I really liked it, but it's bizarre and all over the map, and I'm guessing a lot of people won't like it.

I have to watch it just out of curiosity.

I noticed they have the documentary Birth of the Living Dead. Hope I can find time to check it out.

Watched it last night. I actually enjoyed it. Way more than I enjoyed the book.

How was Haunt, Angra?

World War Z was entertaining. Even though many big budget films tend to be formulaic, I enjoy the high quality.

A scary haunted house Movie with a good story and solid performances.

ChronoGrl 06-23-2014 07:40 AM

Can't wait to see Haunt ever since you recommended it.

I just finished the second season of Orange is the New Black. Good stuff.

Cujo

Invasion of the Body Snatchers [ 1956 ]

Hatchet 3

OldBoy [2013]

Doc of the Dead

hammerfan 07-02-2014 04:00 AM

They also just added Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country

Angra 07-08-2014 03:22 AM

Confessions of Murder

Journey to the West

Both Asian.

Straker 07-17-2014 06:31 AM

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

Not sure how well this will translate to an international audience, but Steve Coogan is one Britain's best comedians and Alan Partridge is his greatest creation. The movie isn't anywhere near as good as the TV show, but still worth a watch.

Does that movie have anything to do with the Asian film 13: Game of Death?

Yes, it's a remake.

Still recommendable as the story and most events are different from the original.

ChronoGrl 07-24-2014 10:32 AM

Eww. I didn't like 13: Game of Death. It was icky. ::sad::

I liked em both, but agree with Chrono, the first one is icky. Eating poop is gross.

I noticed this one was new to Netflix last night and watched it immediately. So far I've really liked pretty much everything Lucky McKee has done -- The Woman, May, Sick Girl, and as executive Producer, The Lost was pretty good.

Overall I liked it. Not as much as May or The Woman. It's definitely not for everyone, even fans of Lucky McKee's stylishly flippant, black comedic style. Comparisons to The Craft are valid, but this is way further out there.

6.5/10

With that title i expected it to be a fun watch. It wasn't. It was deadly serious.

ChronoGrl 08-12-2014 11:17 AM

Yes. ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE was just terrible. I'm starting to wonder if the success of May was just pure luck...

Oh good. Glad it wasn't just me.

They're streaming Low Winter Sun now. I've heard that this is a good show.

Alyce Kills

ChronoGrl 08-12-2014 01:10 PM

What's your star-rating for those? I haven't seen them but I've heard that Contracted is good and that Alyce Kills is not. ::wink::

...

Most recently added to my Netflix Queue...

The Master (2012) - I haven't seen it yet but I am a HUGE Paul Thomas Anderson fan and I've heard it's a masterpiece.

Black Rock (2012) - I haven't seen this one either - It's gotten mixed to mediocre reviews - I'm curious though because I've seen the phrase "feminist horror" thrown around in reference to it and I'm curious as to why it would be labelled as such...

Cabin in the Woods... It's been there for a while but here's a reminder - This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I'm rewatching it as I type.

I liked Alyce alittle more, both are very indie, but Alyce has a bit more sickness throughout.

Black Rock is excellent! The women in there are really amazing.

The Master is very good. I like Joaquin and hes great in here but Philip Seymour Hoffman makes the film.

ChronoGrl 08-12-2014 06:12 PM

Cool beans. I'll have to check out Black Rocks next time I need a little horror fix. :danger:
