RIP Robin Williams

Ditto! Just read the news on the web, totally shocking & sad. RIP Robin.

Really sad day. Aside from his highly successful comedy career movies like One Hour Photo showed his versatility and competence as an actor. He will be missed.

Like many of us, I grew up with Robin Williams. First saw him as a kid watching Happy Days, where he appeared as an alien visiting Richie Cunningham. So popular was that role, it would become it's own show called Mork and Mindy. I was too young to catch his intense comedy stand up.

I remember being extememly impressed with his role in Good Will Hunting, for which he won his 2nd Oscar for Best Supporting Actor (the other for Fischer King).

It's a bit errie for me, because just a few weeks ago I caught this clip from youtube from his HBO special called Weapons of Self Destruction. The I saw this bit on being an alchoholic, and it hit me really hard. One of my best friends is an alchoholic, and this performance, to me, has a lot of pain in it. Personally, I didn't laugh once, but appreciated it immensely.

The Academy gave him Oscar only for Good Will Hunting; for The Fisher King he got nominated but didn't win.

This is maybe my most felt celebrity death...it's almost like a childhood friend?
I grew up in the 80's and while his career had already kicked off at that point, I can't think of too many actors that have bought smiles to me throughout my early childhood to my adulthood...his dips into the dramatic side and even sinister roles are also nothing if not memorable.
I remember seeing Hook, and Jumanji at the movies...as well as Good Will Hunting, One Hour Photo and What dreams may come, most of his works I saw at home as a child, but I always looked forward to his work.
I actually just watched one of his latest films but a few weeks ago, angriest man in Brooklyn. Maybe not the stuff that "used to be" but still, the guy is never not entertaining to watch.

He seemed to be forever "on", and sometimes I wondered how this would be for a person, and if it would effect them, or if it was to overcome the effects of something else...I guess I have my answer.

Really unfortunate. So many people of all ages are going to be touched by this...my mother introduced me to his work, and, I hope to introduce my daughter to it too...too bad he's not about any more.
He'll be missed.
