It's funny, when you mentioned this in the other thread I was looking over the recommendations Netflix has for me (they have some good movies in there once in while that I've forgotten or simply didn't know about) and they recommended the Norliss Tapes. It's in my queue now....

just remember to take it for what it is - a made for TV movie from 1973.
it wont be scary or anything by todays standards .. but it cost me a lot of nights sleep when i was a kid.

it was directed by Dan Curtis who was responsible for The Night Stalker ... there are a lot of similarities.
