Into the second morning of the Grand Final...
and... Sergio Leone's The Man With No Name trilogy leads with 7 votes, George Romero's Dead franchise is close on its heels with 6 votes, and Carpenter's (Snake) Escapes are at a distant third with 2 votes. The deadline ends later tonight... Keep the votes coming folks!! This one is going to be a cliffhanger! |
Ah hell........gonna go with Clint.
|
This is super hard.
But I need to go with my gut. The Man With No Name. |
Man with No Name. A great Italian director starts out with a remake of a great Japanese film, then riffs on it brilliantly. It's incredible, an achievement in filmmaking and hermeneutics.

The deadline is up...
We started with 384 franchises battling it out in three sections - 128 duologies, 128 trilogies & 128 quadralogies and bigger franchises...and almost 4 and half months later...we have reached the climax... Ladies and Gentlemen...it gives me great pleasure in announcing the WINNER of the Comprehensive Movie Series/Franchise Tournament... By scoring a 10-7-2 win over George A. Romero's Dead franchise and John Carpenter's Escape from New York/ Escape from L.A. duology... All rise to applaud the Emperor of the Tournament... Sergio Leone's The Man With No Name Trilogy http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...PL._SS500_.jpg A Fistful Of Dollars http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...GL._SS500_.jpg For A Few Dollars More http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...1L._SS500_.jpg The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/...FL._SS500_.jpg Thanks to everyone who participated whole-heartedly in this tournament. We all made history guys. The Movie Series/Franchise Tournament has become the biggest tournament in the history of HDC. From the person who cast 1 vote, to the person who cast almost 200 votes...thank you to each and every voter. Until we meet again, with another tournament hopefully...adios! ******************************TOURNAMENT CLOSED****************************** |
Well done, ___V___!
An excellent tourney! I am a bit shocked that a western series can win in a horror forum, but that really speaks volumes to the power of the films. I'm really quite pleased, even though I voted for the Dead series. I love the Leone think I might have to go write a haunted spaghetti western now |
It's cool how the remaining all three finalists were series that kept the same director throughout.
|
I voted for the Dead's and Snake earlier in this thread but now we are down to the nitty gritty.
Gotta go with Clint. As far as I'm concerned, he DEFINED the Western gunslinger (Sorry, John Wayne fans). |
Yes, well done, V- you sucked me back into these tourneys, even though they frustrate me.
|
In any other tournament, against any opponent, I dare say that Night & Dawn as a combo would be unbeatable. That goes to show how much Eastwood's and Leone's sphagetti westerns have influenced our generation, how they have shaped the very character of the movie lover in the world.
All 3 movies in the trilogy are examples in themselves, and are pure and complete entertainers. It needed a perfect and sound opponent to beat Romero's classics, and I am sure George Romero himself would be happy to lose to such iconic masterpieces of the modern era. I would like to mention some people who helped a lot throughout the tournament... Despare, The Mothman, alkytrio666, neverending, Doc Faustus - thanks for the constant inputs and IMs which kept me going. And a very special thanks to a person who suggested this idea about 6 months back, and whose absence I regret a lot... my friend and guide, The Flayed One. Thanks guys! You all rock! |
Well done ___V___
Excellent, marathon tournament. You deserve a beer or two now :D |
Brilliant, consistent and dedicated work, ___V___
For he's a jolly good fellow............. :D |
Very well done dude. My tournament is nowhere as good as yours. I wish it was. Maybe we should collaberate on the next one I do for the Horror Icon Single's Tournament. This year it will be good and evil together fighting eachother. Should be fun.
Let me know. |
Very well done V
what happened to The Flayed One?!?!?.....I thought he stayed around after the last influx of bullshit. |
Thanks a lot, guys.

Maybe the trolls kidnapped him and are demanding ransom from the amazon people...who knows...trolls are weird that way... :D |
A perfect tournament, started and ended flawlessly. Congratulations and thanks, V, for the most fun, and, I daresay even exciting, thread on the board.
And HOORAH FOR LEONE! WOOHOO! |
Thanks for the work, V. The effort you put in really encourages people to contribute.

Nah guys. Its our forum...I m doing my part, and everyone else is doing their parts too. Collaboration and contribution is rebuilding this place again, and thats good.
That being said, a tournament is nothing without voters. So credit goes to each and every voter for making this a success. I am glad all of you loved it. Thanks again...:) |
Great tournament. I am really happy to see Eastwood's film trio win it. A very deserving winner I must say.
Good job running it so patiently for such a long time. I look forward to your next one, _V_. |
Your Fucking jokeing!!! I missed the final???
|
