David Cronenberg, I've changed my mind 5 times within the course of the past 10 seconds I've been writing this.
|
Cronenberg starts to mount a comeback....
3-2 Carpenter still leads... Need more votes. |
This is a really tough decision... Although I have no doubt whatsoever that Carpenter will end up winning this match, I have to cast my vote for Cronenberg. He's never made a film that I would rate at less than 8/10, while Carpenter has made some crap.

tougher and tougher - a History of Violence almost pushes me to vote for old DC (a brilliant - brilliant film) but for innovation and sheer creative spark - - i vote for the old cowboy

Final Quarterfinal match up in a few minutes... |
Quarterfinals - Match 4
Our next quarterfinalist made his way to this point by first winning a hard fought 8-6 battle with Don Coscarelli before laying the smack down on Rob Zombie 8-1.... Stuart Gordon - Re-Animator, From Beyond, Dolls, The Pit & The Pendulum (1990), Castle Freak, Dagon, King of the Ants And our final quarterfinalist earned his spot with not one, but two extremely dominant and convincing wins. The first was an 11-0 shutout over William Castle while the second was 13-1 pummeling of Mario Bava. Will Stuart Gordon be able to fair any better? George Romero - Night of the Living Dead (original), Season of the Witch (aka Hungry Wives), The Crazies, Martin, Dawn of the Dead (original), Creepshow, Day of the Dead, Monkey Shines, Two Evil Eyes, The Dark Half, Bruiser, Land of the Dead First one to 7 votes wins. |

George Romero
Even thought I like Gordon he just doesn't have the heavy list of horror classics behind him. |
George Romero

Romero. Even though I think that Gordon's films are a little more consisten, you just can't fuck with the classic Dead trilogy (and Martin, of course.) In fact, I predict that Romero will carry the tournament. Of course, around here you never know...

George Romero dominates another match up with an 11-0 shutout!
Semifinals start in a few minutes.... |
(Before we get started with the Final 4, I just want to comment that I think the 4 we ended up with are all true horror juggernauts when it comes to directing so you guys give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.)
To ensure that the rightful director wins from here on out, the matches are to 10 votes instead of 7. Furthermore, there will be no more 1 point victories. In order to claim a win, the director must be leading by 2 votes or more and have more than 10 total votes. SemiFinal - Match 1 Our first semifinalist has made his way through the tournament with a combined record of 27-10, taking out such great directors as Clive Barker, Alexandre Aja, and the early favorite to win this tournament, Alfred Hitchcock... Dario Argento - The Bird with Crystal Plumage, Deep Red, Suspiria, Inferno, Tenebre, Inferno, Opera, The Card Player Standing in his way is our second semifinalist, making his way through the tournament with a combined record of 27-7 with two of wins coming by way of shutout... He's knocked out Christophe Gans, Takashi Miike and Tod Browning along the way... Wes Craven - Last House on the Left, the Hills Have Eyes, Swamp Thing, Nightmare on Elm Street, Chiller, The Hills Have Eyes 2, The Serpent and the Rainbow, Shocker, The People Under the Stairs, New Nightmare, Vampire in Brooklyn, Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, Cursed, Red Eye First one to 10 votes wins, but they must win by 2. |
I love Argento but Craven shaped my youth. So...Craven!
|
Argento all the way.
|
Ah shit this one is tough as hell...
(re-reading and thinking for 5 whole minutes) just for "Suspiria"...Argento... (really sorry Wes) |
Argento for not prostituting Freddy into a walking one-liner.
