My latest: Captive (Ryan Reynolds) 10/10 Fantastic movie!! This one will end up in my collection. The Remaining 2/10 I didn't know much about the story and I wish I would have, this one sucked!! The only thing I liked about it was a few good kill shots. Petals on the Wind (Heather Graham) 5/10 This was the sequel to Flowers in the Attic. It was so-so but it wasn't completely terrible either. |
Horns. 3/5 Stayed mostly close to the book which was also mediocre. Though the ending was changed to a typical hollywood happy ending.

While the one-person show slept, I watched a modern giallo twofer:
A Black-Shell Sky Bleeds Red Tendrils -- 7.5/10 The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears -- 7/10 |

Wyrmwood (2014)
Refreshing zombie/infected movie from Australia. Plenty of action, good amount of blood and gore and a bit of humour. Ending wasn't really satisfying but I read there's a sequel in the works and I wouldn't mind getting some extra information and a good conclusion. High School (2010) Better than average stoner comedy about a kid who's trying to get his entire school high. Adrien Brody was pretty cool in this one. |
Clown -- 9.5/10; "Are you building a funhouse?" Best horror movie of the year so far.
The Loft -- 3/10 |
Grace the Possession. Incredibly camera work. The few sfx were quite good. Sadly, the story and the characters have been done over and over and over. I'd say see it for the camera stuff, but otherwise its not that great. 5/10

Dead End 2/10 Quote:
First of all, the characters aren't likeable. It's a family (mom, dad, 26 daughter, 20 son, 28 boyfriend) and they all talk "like sailors" to each other. In the first 5 mins, I could warm up to them a bit, but then the rest was unlikeable. Were their lines supposed to be funny? It wasn't to me. And then they go perverted, but it still wasn't funny. It's a rated R film, how young do you have to be to find this funny? Secondly, the characters act illogically, which really irks me. (More on that below in the Spoilers) Third, it's never scary. It's dark humor, I know, still fails to be scary. (New poster "RealityComplex" listed this as a film he thought was scary; so I checked it out.) The cinematography & sound is good. It's an excellent cast. It had a good premise. It just seems to me a 14 yr old wrote the script, or the film is made for folk very different from me. Spoilers The characters were acting illogical. At the end of the film it's revealed it's "a dream". There's dream films where the main characters act logical, such as Inception & Dreamscape -- it works when things BESIDE the main characters are dream-like-illogical. When you lose the anchor of the main character's logic, the contrast is lost. Sure, a film can have dream moments where characters act illogical... but illogical the whole film is too much. |

The Ninth Gate -- 9.5/10; Depp does well in a non-androgynous part.
The Easiest Way to Skin a Cat -- 6.5/10; A slow burn to a gotcha finale. |
Housebound - Fun flick. Was better than I thought it would be.
|
Toxin -- 1.5/10; We have a Danny Glover sighting. Repeat: A Danny Glover sighting, and the worst possible CGI one can imagine.

Hayride 2 -- 0.5/10; I barely recall Hayride 1.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)
http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/...20131020010748 I didn't like the story of this sequel too much, it's not my favorite Freddy. But wish I could have watched it in 3-D as it was released in theaters. I think 3-D does wonderful things particularly for horror films. Despite a weak plot, Freddy has lots of great lines in this one---"Every town has an Elm Street!"---which are worth the price of admission. Also a few jump scares that would startle Angra out of his chair. |
Dumb And Dumber To (2014)
Not as good and memorable as the first one but certainly not a bad movie. And it was great to see Jim Carrey acting silly again. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) Second viewing. I think I liked it as much as the first time. Good cast, story and special effects. I'm looking forward to the sequel. |
Blackwood -- 7.5/10; A well-shot pseudo-mindfuck with a lead who resembles Bruce Campbell.

The Johnsons -- 4/10
I didn't think I could go wrong this after reading its synopsis: Quote:

Roadside -- 0.5/10; This director's prime objective was to ensure that the camera was never more than five feet away from an actor. Setting be damned.

Gothic Insertions -- 6.5/10

Mercy (2014)
Besides of a couple of unexplained things, it wasn't that bad. I really loved the scenery. Instantly reminded me of some Lovecraft tales. Wild Tales aka Relatos Salvajes (2014) "Six short stories involving distressed people." Cool movie. |
Dead Still -- 6.5/10; Better than expected. Loses points for hyper-editing.
|
Deep Dark Hole -- 7/10; Disturbing! I typically detest mockumentaries, but this one struck home. Not for the casual horror fan.
|
ABC's of death 2 --- 7/10
Really good movie, perfect for us with ADD. It's dark and gory in places hilarious in others. I love the premise of these two movies, 26 shorts by 26 directors, each get a letter of the alphebet and have to pick a word that starts with that letter and build a short around it. |

|
Girl House -- 1/10; Most horror writers have no clue how to tastefully incorporate in-script technology. Clown '14 gets it right, as does Scream 4 to a lesser extent.
|
Just Got Stretched 2 -- 6/10; Holy Mother of God, this makes Saw look like Toy Story.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR (2014). While not as good as the first SIN CITY, thought this was worth seeing with Powers Booth and Mickey Rourke standing out. ***
