And I watched George Romero's Knight Riders (1981)... all I knew about it was knights on motorcycles, and if I expected anything it was a campy Mad Max thing... which is totally incorrect. It surprised me. A few elements of the thing irk me slightly, but it's a wonderful handling of Arthurian stuff without being a retelling (although it helps if you know the Arthur stuff, so you can spot Elaine, the fisher king, etc. If you don't know that it might be confusing.) Merlin with butterflies painted on his scalp is a nice touch, Tom Savini turns in a great acting performance (seems to be just acting like himself), some jump-inducing stunts, and bonus points for Stephen King snorting down a sammich.
Anyone else seen it? It's a rather well made little film.[/QUOTE] KNIGHTRIDERS is VERY good, although atypical for Romero. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971). Some of the previous posts inspired me to watch this again. One of Kubrick's best, although it drags towards the end. Amazing work by John Alcott/Walter Carlos and Malcolm is very engaging in what have must been a difficult role. Oddly, as older, find lots of it quite funny...Alex's reunion with his droogs, his disciplining them and the scene with his parents and their border. Back in 1971, this and STRAW DOGS were heartily condemned for the violence, but find CO to have a more choreographed feel (although "Surprise Visit" is so perverse) while SD has a more gritty sadistic edge to it. Obviously not for everyone, but should be seen at least once. ****1/2 |

Silver Bullet is one of my favorites. I watch it every year. ::love:: Exorcist II:The Heretic 2/10. I'm sad this is part of Richard Burton's filmography. |

I watched this for the first time just this Monday and thought it was charming, with some pretty slick werewolf FX and a fun cast. Gary Busey really was perfect for the role of Uncle Red. |

Exorcist II:The Heretic ... most disappointing movie I ever saw. Although I liked the weird scene where the chic was spinning this thing that killed all the locost. ::big grin:: |

Watched one of my favorite movies last night. Nosferatu, Werner Herzog's brilliant remake of the original from 1922. |
!!!HALLOWEEN HORROR MONTH!!! https://s14.postimg.org/rzvjss02l/The_Thing_1982.jpg The Thing (1982) I.M.D.B. It's the first week of winter in 1982. An American Research Base is greeted by an alien force, that can assimilate anything it touches. It's up to the members to stay alive, and be sure of who is human, and who has become one of the Things. (In celebration of Collector Edition Bluray) It's been 20 years since I first watched it so it felt like the first time. And I absolutely loved it. Brilliant suspense and tension, great characters, impressive makeup - overall this is a fantastic movie experience, the influences from which can be seen in so many movies since. Probably my favourite of the Halloween horror month so far. Highly recommended. 9/10 |

He Knows You're Alone-1980. |
ALIEN (1979). While the sets are still amazing, the film takes it's sweet time until "That scene" and then it really becomes intense. ****

Fright Night
So much to love about this movie. Terrific vampire, and a terrific vampire killer as well. Sarandon and McDowell are perfectly cast in their respective roles. |
Invasion of the Blood Farmers, 1972. 7/10

Watched THE THING again (1982). This is really one hell of a movie, with still awesome FX and Kurt Russell is dead cool. If You have not yet, check out the commentary with Kurt and John Carpenter...think a few beers were consumed as lots of laughter. Kurt is in the same frame also during USED CARS (1980) and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (1986) commentaries also. By the way, I also recommend the other two. *****

I watched all of the Friday the 13th movies so with that being said Part VIII - Jason Takes Manhattan is the most recent one I watched. That movie is so bad, but I wouldn't mind watching the Alamo Drafthouse double feature some day with The Muppets Take Manhattan and Jason Takes Manhattan. I hope they do it again next year.

PSYCHO 2 (1983). Lots of things to recommend here-Anthony Perkins, impressive visual shots and sets-, but incredibly flabby script by Tom Holland (who improved greatly with FRIGHT NIGHT and CHILD'S PLAY) brings it way down. Have to say the scariest thing here is HOW MUCH Dennis Franz looks like porno actor Ron Jeremy ::shocked::::big grin::::wink::!! **1/2

Nightmare City
Only the second time I've watched this and I'm asking myself why I haven't thrown this sucker in the DVD player more often. |
