Howling
10 out of 10 would watch again. Also realized this round that Dee Wallace has the most delightful scream I’ve ever heard from a female. I usually prefer male screams as they’re less painful on the eardrums. Death Warmed Up Not terrible despite the shit video quality. Aliens Loved it. Watched it twice. Bishop is bae. Jaws For Fourth of July watching of course. Jason Takes Manhatten One of my favorite Fri13th sequels, don't judge me. Friday the 13th Friday the 13th Part 2 Friday the 13th Part 3 Also good for watching for Fourth of July festivities. |
Visited my sister in Chicago last week and she's a big 80s horror fan, so we picked out something sort of out of the ordinary (for me at least) and watched "The Changeling" with George C. Scott. I'd never seen it and we had fun watching. Not too bad. :)

BLOOD AND LACE (1971). After Bloof's stirring review/observations, decided to give it another spin. still silly, but way sleazy and Gloria Grahame is really good in here. ***1/2
|
WIZARDS (1977). Very strange, but interesting animated Ralph Bakshi film. Lots of Tolkien references in here. ***1/2
|
THE DEAD ZONE (1983). Very good adaption of the Stephen King novel with stellar turns by Christopher Walken and Tom Skerrit. ***1/2

I don't mind spiders. I find them to be quite gentle. The only insects and reptiles I am afraid of are roaches and copperheads. |
FROM BEYOND (1986). Made by the same team as RE-ANIMATOR with many of the same cast, aided by the always welcome Ken Foree. Not as over the top as the first film, but still a hell of a lot of fun. ****

ONE DARK NIGHT 1982
A young woman wakes up screaming from a recurring nightmare. Later, a convoy of coroner vehicles are seen pulling up in front of an apartment building where the bodies of six young girls are found in the closet of an apartment belonging to an old man, also recently deceased. Pretty cool 80's fare. |

THE BEST OF SEX AND VIOLENCE (1982). GREAT party tape filled with lots of the title, mainly Charles Band/Jerry Gross exploitation flicks. All trailers with wry commentary from John Carradine. Some of the films shown are ZOMBIE, I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, THE DEVIL'S WEDDING NIGHT, TERMINAL ISLAND, SWEET SUGAR (the last two starring the incredibly beautiful Phyllis Davis), EBONY IVORY AND JADE (your jaw will drop), DR BLACK AND MR HYDE (ditto) and closing with the DOLEMITE triolgy...you'll be screaming to friends and family members "PUT YOUR WEIGHT ON IT!!!" after seeing the final preview for DISCO GODFATHER. ***1/2

Night of The Leapus.
It was so stupid! I have never had so many laughs in my whole life! |
EQUINOX 1970
In some articles I read, this movie was thought to be the possible inspiration for Evil Dead. Two couples are caught in the mountains for more than a picnic. They come across an old book and are then set upon by monsters trying to retrieve the book. The monsters were stop motion and reminded me of Ray Harryhausen. |

Watched "Hellraiser" again for the first time in maybe 5+ years last night. As good as ever. Great movie. Going to re-watch "Hellraiser II" (my favorite) soon.

Watched the remake of George Romero's Crazies. I had high hopes because it seemed like the kind of film that might benefit from a reimagining, but...no.
It was uninspired and by the midway point, I was combing my cat and working on my Halloween music playlist. So, all was not lost! Just realized I posted this in the wrong spot. Oh well, the original was made in this time frame, yes? Ok, that's good enough for me. |

HOUSE (1986). remembered the TV ads and the FANGORIA coverage and REALLY wanted to like this, especially with all the familiar names in here. Not Funny, not scary and just not necessary. *1/2

BLACULA (1972). The typical AIP wackiness is prevalent in here, but stick with it and You'll find it's a lot better than You would expect. Wonderful performance by William Marshall with decent support by Vonetta McGee. Also a short turn by Elisha Cook JR, one of my favorites who meets a bad end in here, like he always seemed to in all of his movies.
A really good opener with one of the best most evil Dracula's ever-Charles MacCually had NIGHTMARE raving about it-and some pretty good scenes-especially involving Ketty Lester. Her second/third scenes scared the BeJesus out of me the first time I saw this. Despite the fact the film descends into DARK SHADOWS territory with the plot, still worth seeing. Also a few songs by The Hues Corporation who had a number #1 single a few years down the road! ***1/2 |
